We left the cats together for their first weekend while we were out of town. Up to this point Cleo (new cat) and Ameretto have only hissed and growled at each other. We just returned and found a pile of cat poo under the table where Ameretto has been camping out since we got the new cat. We also found blood in the carpet and caked into Ameretto's fur. I spread the hair apart and found a large wound, it must be a bite as Cleo has no front claws. I feel terrible for Ameretto but I must ask you people, do you think this was the one event that solidified the pecking order? I mean even now Ameretto is not running away like she did before the biting. Is something as deadly as a bite needed to determine dominances?

Im not really sure because I have 6 and got each of them at different times and the resident cats have always been very accepting to the newcomers. You said Ameretto is not running away like she was before but are they still hissing, ect. at each other? Just to be safe...if you do go out of town again I would'nt leave the 2 alone together again. Don't worry we won't. The bite will take 2 weeks to heal. Cleo will be doing some jail time whenever we are not home. Cats are funny creatures. Since the bite Ameretto has stopped running away from Cleo, she sits on the couch and love seat again, and is going into her litter box. IP: Logged |

I have to agree with you cats are funny creatures! I have to ask though are your cats neutered? I have found this has helped the fighting in my house greatly, now we only get little spats instead of them actually hurting each other. IP: Logged |

Isis Both females have been fixed. I am under the impression that Cleo is a fighter as she was found with many cuts under her chin. She is a brave and gutsy cat, especially since our other cat has her front claws. Cleo never runs away, and is always right up in Ameretto's face. Someone told me the other day that the kids in our building have grabed cats off the street and sent them up in the elevator for a joke, how cruel. IP: Logged |
