Hi all - I've posted before with this question, but it's really starting to concern me. My youngest cat Bailey got spayed about3-4 months ago, I can't remember the date exactly. She is current with all of her vaccinations and is an indoor cat only. She has started to put on some serious weight. She used to be very dainty and tiny as she was the runt of her litter. She first started gaining weight in her tummy, but now she has gotten just down right HUGE! She has about doubled in size and still growing. Her head, body, legs - everything has hit some kind of growth spurt that I have never seen before. When she got spayed, she weighed 5.8 pounds. Now she is closer to 10 or 11 pounds and she's NOT fat - she's thick all over. It looks like she's been on steroids and pumping iron.LOL Concerned mommy IP: Logged |

Sometimes cats are just that way. They're just large all over. It's their genes. Other times, it can be a health problem. Get your cat checked for diabetes regardless. Diabetes affects thousands of cats. Also, what breed is your cat? and see your vet ASAP. ~H~ IP: Logged |

She's a DLH brown/grey Tiger. Diabetes could cause a cat to double in size, only after spaying?? Mmmm, wouldn't she have shown signs of this prior to spaying and wouldn't it have shown in bloodwork taken before surgery. I had a 12 panel blood work up done on her prior to going under the knife. My vet (and boss) didn't say anything about it than. IP: Logged |

Not necessarily, I've heard it can develope at any time during a cats life, genetic or not. Good luck! ~H~ IP: Logged |

it can show up at anytime. Like in humans you could get tested and be - but then a few months later test again and have it. It can hurt to test her just in case. Some cats like said above are just big like that though so it could be nothing. IP: Logged |
