I have three cats. Two are spayed sisters and the third is a new addition, an unneutered male. They have been getting along great, we have had the kitten for a month or two but just recently one of the sisters has started to lose weight. She only eats small amounts and doesn't seem to be all that interested in food. She seems happy, purrs all the time and plays fine with the others. She was a pretty big cat before, perhaps a little chubby even. Is she just regulating her weight as the weather improves and she doesn't need the body fat to stay warm or is there a more sinister reason for her only eating little amounts? I have looked in her mouth and all seems fine and she doesn't have a tender tummy. She is drinking and going to the little pussies box fine. Any ideas? IP: Logged |

Does she appear to be stressed out by the addition of the new kitten? Stress might cause her to eat less. Did she lose alot of weight rapidly? If so, you might want to have her checked by a vet because rapid weight loss if very unhealthy for cats and can lead to other health problems. IP: Logged |

P.S. As the weather get nicer all of my animals have a tendancy to eat a little less. IP: Logged |

She eats less, but has not lost weight rapidly. Mind you having said all this she dug into her tea with a voracious appetite and polished the lot off so maybe it was her own way of regulating her weight. Plus I don't think I had perhaps taken into account that she is losing her winter coat. I think perhaps getting the kitten neutered and him being less boistress will help, he can be a bit much for me even so no doubt she gets the tiniest bit irritated with him too! IP: Logged |

Have you talked to the vet? They might know something. But I agree with nern, it could be the addition of a new member. If the females have been together a while, they might not be happy with the new cat. Also, did you make even a slightest change in the cats diet? If so, try switching to the old one, and gradually reduce the amount of the old one until it's completely the one you want to use. IP: Logged |
