My long haired cat has a habit of licking and itching, especially by her tail, to the extent that small scabs appear and hair is literally licked away. My vet gave her a cortisone shot 2 weeks ago, which provided about 2 weeks of relief. the vet wants to do a skin plug to get it tested, but that's very expensive. We have changed foods to only dry, and various brands - we don't think it's a cause. The cat is a bit cowardly, but not nervous. Any suggestions? IP: Logged |

What brands of cat food have you tried? None of the commercial brands provide adequate nutrition for our carnivorous friends, and many illnesses are related to food quality- skin problems being one of the most common. Try researching raw food diets (there are several books that have good suggestions) if you don't have the time to prepare raw foods, there are a few natural commercial brands that provide better quality foods (although they are more difficult to find) Innova is an excellent brand. Hope this helps! -Carrie IP: Logged |
