Please help! I found a beautiful abandoned cat, and took her home about 1 month ago. I had her tested and examined for diseases, and to be safe kept her in her own room for 2 weeks to be sure she didn't have any illnesses. So last week I began the "introduction" between my resident cat and the cat I found. The resident cat is pretty mellow, but the new cat FREAKS out! So all of the new cat's hissing, and howling upsets my resident cat and a big fight breaks out. The new cat won't make any attempt to get along. I leave her room door open during the day. My cat sits at the door and "hangs out" while the new cats hides in the corner of the room freake out. There has been no progress, just fighting every day. The new cat won't leave her room AT ALL. What should I do? I tried catnip, but that got them both excited and a big fight broke out! Please help! I really don't want to find a home for the new cat, she has really bonded with me. Maybe it would be better for her? Thanks! IP: Logged |

Check out this website - (you have to scroll down to "Introducing a New Cat to Your Household") there are several links that you may find helpful. You may also consider getting some Rescue Remedy and/or Feliway which may help decrease the stress and anxiety that this new stray is having. These are also mentioned on the webpage below. http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Pointe/9352/owners.html IP: Logged |
