Hello All; I was wondering if anyone had some good home remedies for an upset tummy. Harley is in the midst of her "season" right now and she has been really tummy sick the last couple of days. She is going to the bathroom like very 30 mins. and doesn't always go but she feels like she does. Its so sad she just squats there looking at me like "mom, why me?" I feel so bad. 2 days before we were to get her fixed she hurt herself pretty bad and that emergency trip to the vet was withthe spay money. Then when we had the money back (only like 2.5 weeks after) she went into heat. ARGH. Poor thing. Anyways, I had a good home remedy from different site. I think it had rice in it, can't rmember. Let me know! Leslie IP: Logged |

Chicken broth and overcooked rice are always the best for an upset tummy to help her get some nutrients. If she is still woozy and can't keep that down, give her a little bit of kaopectate (sp?). That's what our vet had us give a pup when he got colitis from eating grass. IP: Logged |

A good food for dogs with tummy problems is called "Hill's Prescription Diet" Canine i/d. Your vet will have to give a RX for it, but can be bought in most animal clinics for about 1.00 a can. Only get around 6 cans because things usually get back to normal in that amount of time. Vets will alway talk you into getting more. I stand corrected: the Hill Diet is around 1.80 a can. What a RIP! Home Remedy: Rice with chicken broth (Campbells) with a side of tofu ( grocery produce). Get some Pediolyte(sp) found in Baby Isle is most grocery stores. This will replenish electrolytes in dogs that are vomitting and have diarrhea. [This message has been edited by loves-da-pits (edited 03-11-2004).] IP: Logged |
