Hi you guys I have a question for you, my husbands hunting dog has heartworms according to our vet we found this out when they had to do a C-section on her. So my question is will she pass them onto her pups? And can my other 2 dogs get them even though they stay in the house and have little or no contact with her? Thank You for any advice you may have. Heartworms come from mosquitoes. I doubt they can pass them on to the babies. They definitely can't pass them on to your other dogs. It just isn't something a dog can 'catch' from another dog. Only mosquitoes. Besides, I'm sure your vet would have told you (concerning the pups) and if she/he didn't, why didn't you ask while you had the opportunity? IP: Logged |

The beagle is my husbands dog which he bought a couple of months ago so he was the one who took the dog to the vet and I guess he didnt ask many questions beyond treatment. I have never really read much about heartworms or have known a dog which had them I always just go once a year and get my dogs their checkups and have always been told their bloodwork was negative for heartworms so I just give them the heartworm pill once a month. The vet said that my husbands dog has most likely had heartworms for a year or two. I have little or no contact with my husbands hunting dogs, he prefers it that way as cruel as it may sound he and many people around here who also have hunting dogs like to be the only one to train or have any interaction with the dogs he trains and conditions these dogs 3-4 times a week and says if they become pets they will no longer work. I know nothing really about his hunting dogs he also has two pointers which are very well socialized with the family, but are "working dogs with a job to do" according to my husband.
