I'm wondering if anyone has heard of this and if it is as disturbing to others as it is to me.
I have a friend who's pit will bite when he gets excited, there doesn't seem to be agression, just like he was playing with another dog. It's just that he doesn't seem to know his own stregenth. They have found a trainer in Seattle who's idea of training is to hang the dog by it's choke coller until the dog passes out. When the dog comes to, the owner gives it a command of some sort. The trainer has several certifications, trains police dogs and says he has been in the business over 20 years. Has anyone heard of this? I can't imagine this kind of treatment. Or am I off base here.

tell your friend not to take their dog to this person. its just plain cruelty. using fear to train a dog just isnt good. there are plenty of non cruel ways to train a dog. i think someone else either on this board or the dogs board mentioned a trainer who hangs dogs by a choker. i wonder if its the same trainer?

.....

i found the site from the post i mentioned. http://www.arkonline.com/stephen_king.htm

That (trainer) for lack of a better word would never get his mits on my dog!

That kind of abuse can turn an other wise good dog into a fear biter or at the very least it could break the dogs spirit.

i agree i dont agree with fear training at all if you did that with kids they would grow up to be inmates. i dont like shock training either. why can't people just use love and corn puffs? thats what i did.

why the hell would anyone think its okay to choke a dog into passing out!!? I was totally outraged whe I read that! I can't believe this guy is even ALLOWED to train dogs. What a gross disrespect for an animal. Lets choke him until he passes out and when (and if) he comes to we'll give him the command to stop training that way!
I remember this kid I went to school with ( came from a bad family) used to choke himself and his friends into passing out (they apparently thought this was a good idea), well, one kid didn't come to right away, and from that day on lost a percentage of his brain. That's right, brain damage, does this "trainer" not care that this could very well happen to a dog.
Just disgusting!

Lets not blame the dogs for a trait bred into them by the evilness of man. Lets understand them instead, so we can provide responsible ownership and give them a chance to show the world why they are so deserving of our love.

O h please do call the SPCA, This was talked about on the the other dogs forum a few months ago. The guy was training in Oregon, sounds like the same guy, he apparrntly fled to Europe ( I think) because he was in trouble here for that kind of training. I did a search to post what people had to say about it, but couldnt find the post. From what I remember, I thought he was arrested over there.

I was able to find som info on the other dog thread and here it is

"I followed up on some articles on this, and found some updates, the latest being in October of 2002. He disappeared from our area" and surfaced in London where he was charged with the same types of crimes. They had photos of him helicoptering a dog until the choke chain broke and the dogs eyes were literally popping out of it's head. It made me sick to view them. In the end it looks like he was sentenced with not being able to train or own a dog for 1.8 years and had to do community service and pay a fine. I think he should never be allowed to train or own a dog and jail time was in order. Even the people who had good experiences with him should have payed attention to the people who were making claims, there seemed to be evidence in several instances, I would have been very wary. It's weird I don't remember hearing anything about this case. I also found him listed on an abusers list. I feel sorry for the man and the people who have bought his "style" of training, it's very sad he hasn't learned in all his years how much a dog will do willingly and happily for love.

That is one of the most craziest way of training i have ever heard of if he ever touched cheeko i would kill him. And didn't your friends think that was a crazy idea i'm not saying that they are iresponsible or any thing like that?

Honey bear, I remember reading that article very recently. It even showed a picture of the dog he was choking, and you could see the eyes, they were so far out of hs head they looked like they were about to pop. Nasty! Just wondering if it was a typo or not, is it really only 1.8 years, or 18 years. Your post says 1.8 and though it is a weird lenght, it is definetly not enough.

As I have posted recently, I had a behavioral problem with one of my dogs and sought help with a dog handler and behavorist specialist. Her RX to training a naughty pit is to use a clicker, ( a metal devise that makes a loud clicking noice) as notice that they are being bad. And this might seem a little over the edge, but she suggest doggie massages for 15 minutes a day and when I return after I leave her for a period of time due to separation anxiety. This trainer you're talking about sounds like he's training dogs for something other than being lover pets. My trainer's moto is, reward you dog for doing good, not punish them for being bad.
