Why would you need a treadmill for your dog? You should be exercising it outside with runs and play? Not imposing, just wondering IP: Logged |

Maybe because of certain factors, or maybe I can get my dog more ripped on a carpetmill than walking IP: Logged |

Playing ball at the park a couple day's a week or even every day will give you exciersize and may even keep you in shape. but if you want to bulk up or do any sort of body buildig you have to hit the gym. I treadmill, spring pole, draft, WP and swimm my dogs on a regular basis. Combine this rutine with a strait raw diet and plenty of it plus supps some breeds like pits can become absolutly freekish LOL, I love it. IP: Logged |

A mere walk outside cannot provide the conditioning a treadmill can. Hope I can help, some site on the net has easy plans for building a carpet mill. They are really simple. I saved the pic plans to the hard drive on my old pc, but can't find. I think I may have deleted it. I'm looking for the site again if I find it I'll post the link. I ended up buying one just because of lack of motivation to build one. But I'm going to build one sometime soon to be able to work two dogs at once. They are great, let us know how yours works out for you and if you are having trouble getting the dogs to run it. Sometimes that happens. bully why even ask a question such as that? I just don't understand. Runs and play??? IP: Logged |

Ture pits, I was simply asking a question about treadmills. I had never heard of training a dog on a treadmill before, besides people bulking them up fo rfighting purposes. I was simply asking him to explain so I could learn what the benefits of it would be. IP: Logged |

We used to run Lady about three miles a day, until my ignorant neighbors figured out that she was a pit, so to keep her safe, and in shape, we bought a treadmill. BTW, you will never see a happier dog! We run all of our pits on the 'mill, and they love it. Just be sure to strech and warm up before and after. And let them go too fast to soon. Encouragement is the best, if you get frustrated with them, you can break their spirit. IP: Logged |

Well it happens everyday, it is one of the most effective tools. Owners of other breeds use them as well. Benefits would be a conditioned dog. And you never bulk up a dog that is going to be matched, so you heard wrong. Match dogs need to be lean and the purpose of conditioning is to get them in peak condition. The lowest possible weight without weakening the dog. I still can't find the website with the drawing!! I think I'm going to be making a design of my own for the one I'm going to build. IP: Logged |

Hey, maybe it wasn't to bulk them up for fighting, but I remember reading that that's what they use. But now I am quite interested in the idea. my AmStaff doesnt get to run as much as I would like her to because she is pretty dog aggressive (which we are trying to work on) so I walk/run her at irregular times (for me anyways) either really early or later in the evening when there aren't many people out with their dogs. I have started a Yahoo group if any of you want to join. You can post pics of your babies and just share any news and stories you would like. I have named it Protect the Pits. Just go onto Yahoo Groups and type in protectthepits (all one word) and you can join. I have soem of my girls pics up. I started to try to raise awareness and responsible ownership and have gotten ahold of the people at PBRC and we can use them as a reference to people who don't think there is a problem regarding the overwhelming number of homeless pits. I just started it so there are no members yet. I would also like to use the group as a type of patrol when it comes to finding fighting groups that promote fighting their dogs, which I have found last week. I hope you decide to join, if anything just post some pics and take a look at some other pits people have. IP: Logged |

I am on the group now and about to check it out. Some other people need to come join too. Oh yeah I'm sure treadmill is one of those things on the list of dog fighters. I think I should protest that POS list. Has anyone else seen it. Its on some websites and just about anything to do with owning pit bulls is on it and you can be under suspician for simple owning a couple Pits.
