my pitbull has a strange wound on her leg above her ankle. it kind of looks like a raspberry, it's irritated and very red. should i cover it, cause she's constantly tending to it, or not? Does anyone have advice on what to dress it with?

How old is your dog?? where does he/she like to sleep?? Sometimes dogs can develop raised red spots on pressure points where they lie down. Eventually these spots just calus over. Sound like a possibility?? If so, there isn't anything you can bandage with. Maybe try providing a softer place to sleep. My first dog (saint bernard) is only 2 years old, but since she prefers to sleep on the cold tile floor her elbows have the same kind of spots...

I recommend you take her to the vet to get it checked out,you could try putting some neosporin antibiotic cream on it in case it is infected. However like i said before, you should contact the vet and see what they think.

It could be a ringworm I see sores like that all the time at the animal shelter where I work and 90% of the time they are ringworm and with ringworm they will lose their hair and have a very red irritated looking sore it's also a possibility it's just a hotspot.

From the description you gave, it sounds like a cist. You would have to go to the vet because they have to cut it off.

Definately have it checked out. My parents old lab has them, and they are little tumors that have to be removed. Its kinda like warts, but I don't remember what they call them.

DOn't cover it or put anything on it. She'll just lick it off and the ointment can make her sick. Dogs heal themselves by licking their wounds. The bacteria in their mouths helps to keep it clean.
