My pit seems to LOVE (again i'll emphasize this) LOVE to play with rocks, and bricks. He'll toss them around and chase them. and when he has one, good luck getting his attention. he'll sit and lick them dilligently, and keep them in his bowl. i'm really really worried about the damage to his teeth and jaw. i seriously canNOT get him to stop picking them up and (sort of) chewing on them. there are just way too many rocks in my yard to keep away from him, if i take away the big ones, he finds small ones and there's no way to stop him from finding new ones. its not realistic to clear my ENTIRE yard of all rocks, what does this mean and what can i do? I don't have the faintest idea on that one, but I will say, Rocks will indeed damage your dog's teeth. I have had a couple dogs who wore their teeth down to NOTHING by the time they were 5+. Why can't you possibly get rid of the brick and stones? Unless you want a dog with no teeth, you're gonna have to do something. Keep the dog in the house 24/7 maybe? (Yeah, right..) And yeah, I think it's something I would worry about if I were you. [This message has been edited by chickee (edited 02-03-2004).] IP: Logged |

I would try to remove as much of the brick and stones as I could. The ones I could not get rid of~~~ maybe try spraying red hot or bitter apple on them? IP: Logged |

I had a dog who loved them as well...we named him Grinder....lol He wore his teeth down as well, but them we soon realized that he was seeking minerals in the rocks. I also tried to remove all the larger rocks I could, and wehn he picked up any, I scolded him. This worked, but as soon as we were'nt around, I'm sure he jumped up and got him a rock. OH why don't you try some neat doggie treats? Like a Kong with peanutbutter in it, or a doggy bone? There are also balls that you fill with small treats that the dogs roll around adn treats fall out. Perhaps that will deter him from the "rock fest". IP: Logged |
