Does making your pit drag a chain or where one around the neck really build muscle? It is any other way to strengthen your dog? Any info. will help?

hey, letting your dog drag a chain is not a good idea, because it inflames the nerves in his neck causing the vertabret to inlarge, not a good thing ,if you want to build muscle give him or her peanut butter they love it and its funny to watch them lick there chops for a 5 minute period and free feed that means that there is always food in their dish that helps put on weight.and feed him (nutro)thats a food that is really high in protein

While most people train there dogs to walk by their side, I encourage mines to pull while we walk. Use a harness, you dont want to choke him. All you have to do is just lean back a little and let him tug you around. You'll be surprised how strong and muscular this makes them. I let my 14 year old cousin hold one of my dogs while I ran in the house to get something. When I got back, my cousin was getting up off of the groung. He said the dog saw a cat and yanked him right of his feet. Try walking up steep hills, and stairs. Trust me, it works! Although, you might get tired before the dog does.

tyed_dyed00 Funny you should mention peanut butter. I just came home from running errands (of course pit bull rescue errands) and sat down at my computer. I was feeding Cairo a bone filled with peanut butter and was laughing at him licking his chops. Then I read your post LOL LOL LOL Great post! And thanks for the informative info !!!

In my experience, free feeding is something I've done, but do no longer. It doesn't much bulk them up muscle-wise as it does FAT wise. Some dogs just will not bulk up more than what genetics will hand them. Keeping a dog on a huge chain without exerise will not put any bulk on them, it will only hurt them. (oh how I just love rumors! - NOT!) I always, always get all my dogs out everyday for just regular old-fashion exercise. Running the backyard, the "BEST" ball or "Indestructable" ball is GREAT for building muscules all over. Especially the neck and shoulders. The spring pole is also good. Here is a picture of Tuesday. She has been working out with her Best Ball since she was 5 mns old, almost everyday since. She is now over 3yrs. Even though all of her littermates and her have almost the exact same structure, she is by far the more bulkier JUST FROM working this hard plastic ball. She is so good at it, she can keep it up, balanced on her nose, in the air for a long time. Similar to a seal.

This picture is Tuesday when she was only 14 months old. She has no fat on her whatsoever.

Please do not put a big chain around your dog and make him or her drag it,that is something a BAD pitbull owner would tell you to do.Lots of play and walks will do just fine! And to chikee your picture of your female pitbull is great, she is absolutely beautiful!

Thanks you guys!~ She is one of my personal 'cuties'. She has a real feminine face on her, but she has a body of a male. She's great.

I have fun exercising my dogs.
I converted an old indoor horse training rink that a friend of mine has on her property into a fantastic agility rink!
I found horse jumps and poles I used for weaving.
I ordered tunnels on E-bay and bought a stand table at a used furniture store.
My husband is a mechanic so I was able to get a big truck tire for them to jump thru.
I then bought hula hoops for them to jump thru.
I made a see saw too!
They run and I run with them.
We are just learning but we have so much fun and get plenty of exercise in the process.
I bought a few books on the subject of agility and watch agility shows on Animal Planet when I can. This seems to help us both stay in shape over this long cold winter!!

You can get them at petsmart I believe, but you can get them at numerous online stores also. Do a search on google for Indestructable ball or Best ball. Here is just one link to the ball, (good price too)- http://www.worldpetstore.com/worldpets/indogbal10.html

I got the 6" for puppies and then the big 10" for adults. If you have numerous dogs, you may want to supervise OR let them play one by one, as they can get a little 'tempered' having to share at times.

NO! They are made from the 'hard' polythylene type plastic. They can't put a hole in it and they can't eat it. The only thing I don't like is the plug, (so you can fill it with sand or water to put weight on it.) They eventually gnaw at it and it comes out and then they try gnawing at the hole itself. They can last a lifetime, but mine have lasted between 1½ - 2½ years before I feel I need to replace.

My dogs also eat kongs.

Thanx for the info Chickee. So, Im guessing, they just roll the ball around with the weight in it and it builds them up like that?

Thank you.
I went to the web site. I shall be ordering my dog new toy balls to play with!
I will let you know how they like playing with them!
I am sure they will love it!
I appreciate your input!

I'll agree with Chickee on this one.

Just because a food may be high in protein doesnt mean its going to bulk them up - more likely fatten them up instead -haha. PB is okay in moderate amounts - as treats..

Yes, nothing beats that good ole fashioned (healthy) exercise

Yep, I agree as well. Free feeding to non working dogs, makes them fat. Mine have free feeding when ever they are at the house, so they can snack and they get a full "meal" at night, but mostly their out working pretty hard, so they need the extra "snacks". You'd be amazed at how much the extra play bulks them up and makes them loose the fat, as well as YOU!!!

I found that swiming your dogs works as well. Mine love water. and it really helps.

Do not put heavy objects on your dogs. How do you think it really affects them? You don't pull around heavy chains, objects, around your neck when your working out do you?? I doubt it.
