The vet wants to charge me $175 to crop my pups ears. Is this the going rate?

I would I go about training my male dog to for weight pulling?

$175 sounds about right. Usually you want to do about 3-4 months old at latest. But up to 6 months would be the worst case scenario. You can find ppl that aren't vets that'll do it for like $50

Have you gone back and checked the replies to your last post.

Well here is mine I'll just put it on here for you. If you have already read it just skip down below to what I just added.

Outkast your pup sure is cute. You can ask the vet about the different styles. A good vet will usually have a sheet or something for you to look at the different styles to choose from. But on the avarage a knowledgable vet is going to cut the dogs ears according to breed, unless otherwise stated or if they don't know what they are doing. I have seen so many Pits with cuts that were ment for another breed and the owners have to go through stands and taping just to get the ears to stand up right. A APBTs ears will usually stand erect on their own as they have a shorter crop than most. But they will do whatever you ask.
Here is a few of mine that have been cropped.

These 2 were done by the same vet, he is great at it, I was very satisfied.

This gal's was done by the breeder, really good job also. Most experienced breeders will do a better job than lots of vets though. Some vets go to a one day siminar and then experiment/practice on your dog!!!! Get references on the vet or see pics of dogs they have done.

Along with adding this. That is a decent price I'd say, but I'd check around at some others vets if you haven't already and find out the prices of some others. And look into dogs the vet has previously done to make sure they know what they are doing.

Here is a male that I used to have he is about 10 months in this pic. He is a big looking dog. Just had his ears done a couple weeks ago at about 11 MONTHS. I'll try to get a pic if I can to see the difference. A crop can really change their appearance.

Outkast,
Please get your dogs ears cropped by a professional vet. I disagree strongly with JJ Luchiano, (not saying you're wrong, but just to make sure the person is VERY reputable before getting it done, don't mean to offend you JJ) but to find some "guy" that is not a professional just to save a buck is very dangerous. It seems that $175 is a reasonable rate, especially to ensure the safety of your little one. You can ask the vet for references as well. Some vets will do a better job than others, so I would definately check references.
Good Luck, and your dog is gorgeous, the baby pic remind me of my little one.
