I have 13 week year old female pitbull. I want to get her ears cropped. Just wanted to know anybody else's thought on this topic. Also about how much should it cost? Plus, what are the type of cropped eared styles called and what do they look like? Any pictures anybody can provide would be very helpful. Thanks. IP: Logged |

Outkast your pup sure is cute. You can ask the vet about the different styles. A good vet will usually have a sheet or something for you to look at the different styles to choose from. But on the avarage a knowledgable vet is going to cut the dogs ears according to breed, unless otherwise stated or if they don't know what they are doing. I have seen so many Pits with cuts that were ment for another breed and the owners have to go through stands and taping just to get the ears to stand up right. A APBTs ears will usually stand erect on their own as they have a shorter crop than most. But they will do whatever you ask. Here is a few of mine that have been cropped.
These 2 were done by the same vet, he is great at it, I was very satisfied.

Everyone Has such pretty dogs!! Thanks for sharing!!! I have shelter dogs one American Staffordshire Terrier and two pit mixes. My Am Staff does not have cropped ears. He was too old when I got him so I had no choice. I do like the non cropped look too!!! IP: Logged |

2 of my 5 were too old when I got them. I have 3 that I could've had done, but there is only one vet in my area that does it & they are NOT reputable when it comes to cropping a Pit. I spoke to several people that used them & they screwed up the ears. So, needless to say, all 5 of mine are uncropped. I like both looks, but a couple of mine could use a good crop! lol Here are some pics. www.picturetrail.com/mekaspits IP: Logged |

They are never too old to have their ears done. Its all about personal prefferance. IP: Logged |

Oh. That's cool. Knowing that, I may have a couple of mine done at some point, if I can ever find another vet, or even a breeder that can do a good job & not make a mess out of them! lol How you been True_Pits? IP: Logged |

I don't think they are ever too old to get them cropped also, but, that isn't the problem. The problem is trying to find a vet who will do them over a certain age. Most vets will not do them over a certain age. Less vets will. Some vets will do what you want if youve been going to them for years...(like mine).. Long, medium, short or battle crop. They all can have the same tendency to lay down onto the top of the head. It happens, but easy to fix by bandaging them up yourself. Personally, I cannot stand a long crop on a male. It is SO un-becoming of them. Short crops on males, medium cuts on females. Long cuts are for boxers. YUCK ------------------ IP: Logged |
