Yes, Be very suspicious about emails of this sort. They originate in Nigeria, Netherlands, and also UK. Whatever they say or ask for, never give out your bank details. What they do is first send you a false check by mail which you later deposit in your bank. Your bank will treat it as a valid overseas check and will deposit the amount into your account. A short time later the person who placed the order will cancel and will ask for a refund. You will then need to send him/her a refund (from money you draw from your account). A month or two later your bank will notify you that the original check was a fraud and the bank will withdrew the check amount back from your account. Hope this helps... Unfortunately this happens a lot lately. It is an old trick similar to the Nigerian scam letters. They are just getting more creative now. Watch out ! Did they ask ANY questions about what you are selling? I wouldn't trust them. I noticed a lot of them use the same email for anything you sell and just change one or two words. My friend gets a lot of these so I am just giving you my opinion. IP: Logged |

I was real suspicious it was just odd. You know I've been getting some emails with people wanting to put funds in my account, I just delete them. This guy didn't ask anything specific, he is very vauge like he could be asking about anything. I don't trust him at all. IP: Logged |

Just relooked at the email. The subject was American Pit Bull Terriers, BUT they could easily put that for a subject then just paste in the generic message. I like the title DR Russell Richard, Doctor..lol. I did email them back to see what kind of response I get. I have never done anthing internationally. Thanks guys, I'll be on the look out for these. quote: Yikes - i don't like that, I'd tell them you need to know someone before you give out personal information!! Cell number??? That's peculiar... I would explain that you need to meet your potential owners in person as you don't "ship" dogs away and you may require a home check. Also say you only accept certified Cheques. This should take care of them if they are a fraud I'm sure through a network of APBT breeders, even internationally you could find out some info.... I'd even hint at letting them know you "know" and will have words with some breeders in their country. And ask for their infomation. But I agree if you get that feeling go with your gut. IP: Logged |

We're getting approx 30-40 emails per day with someone (mostly from Nigeria) asking to deposit anywhere between $10,000,000 to $125,000,000 into our bank account. The sad part, it seams to be working for them, they would have stopped sending those emails otherwise. The number of emails we receive every day is staidly on the rise. My delete button is wearing out. [This message has been edited by Auspetian (edited 01-20-2004).] IP: Logged |

Things to note: 1) A certified check although may look like one (to you and to the bank) may still be just a good counterfeit. It is only when your bank presents it to the bank named on the check that the fraud can be detected, and the check then bounce. 2) It will take your bank anywhere between 2-4 months to absolutely verify that the check is real (although they will cash it for you immediately it may still bounce later and your bank will ask you to return the funds). Word of advice, I would have stirred well clear of this Doctor if I were you. IP: Logged |

Thanks guys I know it was a Fraud now. I just got another one this morning and you can tell they just copied and pasted in the info they wanted. They way they are so formal no real person would right like that. It says Dear, Seller. quote:That is just strange. ITS condition, people don't generally ask questions like that and call a living being IT. Gosh these people!! I think you would have to be real stupid not to get these signs, they don't even ask any important questions you would when purchasing a dog. These are the first ones I've ever gotten though. Had some emails saying they wanted to deposit 1 million in my bank account, ya right! IP: Logged |

I was helping a friend of mine try to rehome a Doberman & a Boxer, about a month ago. I got a ton of e-mails from that guy. Same guy, from the same place. Only he said that he was inquiring about the dogs for a client of his...... I was going to keep the dogs myself, but they did not do well with other dogs. They kept trying to fight with my dogs, so I offered to help find someone to adopt them. I also had several other e-mails from out of the country. People offering to have someone else pick them up & arrange payment by check or money order. I knew it was a scam, (had to be, they didn't want any info other than a price), so I told them that the dogs were already adopted. People are so shady!! IP: Logged |

So phoney it's funny. But not funny to the people who actually went for it. A friend of mine had this happen. The details can be different in some ways, but it's all the same. I get emails all the time that want to know if I have puppies for sale, how much, pictures, pedigrees, blah.... I just email them back that they can find all the info they are looking for on my site and give them the URL. I wonder, "How do they KNOW my email address and that I have APBTs in general if they haven't went to my site?? And if they have been to my site, they wouldn't have had a need to write such a vague email asking for info and pictures." My goodness, I have more pictures of all my dogs than most people on the Internet. It's all fake. And you kind of wonder at the same time, what kind of people are so dense they can really believe this crap? It's so obvious. IP: Logged |

Don't fall for it. Stupid people. I wrote back telling her she was an idiot if she thought for a second that anyone would fall for such crap. IP: Logged |

I replied to "Dr Russells" To see where it took me and what they would actually say.
quote: I'm wondering what makes him say 5 dogs for $100. I told him I had a friend with a couple(as in 2) of dogs for sale and he could contact her for details as in cost, shipping and everything else, to see what his response was. That was it, the I have my own shipper is the biggest part of the scam. I got several more but his is the only one i replied to, what an idiot, tell him a friend has a couple dogs and he wants 5 for $500. I have another question about this. When they send the check and everything do they actually have someone come ship and get the dogs? I wouldnt think so since it is just a scam but what comes of it? They send you a fake check and then get a refund (which i don't and won't give). What do they get out of it if they don't take the dogs? If they send you a false check and then ask for a refund and you give it to them, they would only get the money they paid in? My friend who is really selling a couple of her dogs, doesnt even have a checking account at this time. Sorry so many questions I have heard of the scam and seen several warnings but I have never been told the end outcome of the scam. IP: Logged |

In your case, you are well aware of the scam and therefore will not send them a refund. They gain nothing. However, the ones that fall for it will send the refund and a month later will discover that the actual check was a counterfeit. In such case they will be loosing the refund money which they had to send back to the con artist. Eg. Con artiste send you a check for $500 you cash it. He later asks for a refund I don’t think you’ll ever see any of them and shipment will never really take place. [This message has been edited by Auspetian (edited 01-21-2004).] IP: Logged |

True_pits, I forgot to mention that the real reason for them to contact you may well develop into what is described in the links provided above. They seek a reason to enter into communication with an unsuspecting victim and it then develops into something else !, Hence his request for your phone numbers , address etc. http://www.419fraud.com/419_crimes.htm [This message has been edited by Auspetian (edited 01-21-2004).] IP: Logged |

Ok thanks you have been so helpful. But they really are not gaining anything but a refund and putting you in the hole. Well Im going to check out the links to learn more. And about the refund, I meant regardless I would never send anyone a refund, they pay for wasting time, its not my fault they changed their mind and couldn't come through. IP: Logged |
