I need to know if I am on the Right track here.

I have been trying to house break my 10 month old puppy, but she still is having alot of accidents (mostly at night) I have tries limiting her feeding at night, but she still has accidents if we don't take her out every hour. I have had her since 7 weeks.

I would think that by now she would at least wimper at the door to go outside

Does anyone have any ideas on the best way to house train & how long is should take her to get used to going out everytime?

Have you tried crate training her? That usually helps. ESPECIALLY at night.

When my dog was small I used puppy pads. She used the bathroom on them but then they got expensive so I switched to newspaper. But eventually she started going outside. She still slips up every now and then but it is usually in the same spot so I just put some paper down in the spot just in case.

I used pupy pads also...the dogs used them then shredded them unless we got to them right after they "did their business".

She may have a urinary infection of some sort. Not uncommon in puppies and one of the reasons some people have problems housebreaking (peeing). With a urinary problem, they always have that urge to pee, and they usually do -- frequent small amounts. Nothing a 10day bout with antibiotics won't cure, if of course, this is the problem.

She is leaving nice big wet spots. So I don't think that is that case. How long did it take all of you to train your pup? Is three weeks long enough or does it usually take longer?

Depending on alot of things such as how adament you are on getting her outside. (Do you work during the day?) And if she is in the crate when not being supervised, etc., it can take as little as a few days to a few months. Some dogs just take longer. I have one dog here who has never been in the house from the day she was born, until now. She had surgery, so she is basically and suddenly a house dog for the duration of the winter. lol.. She is over a year old. I think she may have pee'd in the house initially 2 or 3 times, and it was usually in the wee hours of the night while we were in bed. She has been in the house now for close to 3 months now without any problems. On the otherhand, I used to have an untrained female come into my home and she never really quite got the hang of it for months! She was 7 mns old at that time. I guess what I'm saying is, it may just take a little more efford on your part and a little more time on hers. I don't know where you live, but a lot of puppies just don't like to go out in the cold period, even if they know not to go in the house. I would try the doggie pads and see if that works. Good luck.

I think your right chickee. I live is Salt Lake City, Utah, which has been in the 10-20's lately. My wife is home with her during the day to take her out. I think it's the cold & the fact that she is a stuborn / spoiled brat

Hi--I have a 6-7month old pit bull female who is STILL not housebroken. We have had her since after thanksgiving. She will whimper at the door most of the time, but then when no one is looking do #1 (frequently) and #2 (less frequently). She is driving me absolutely nuts, since i take her out about every hour. She is kennel trained and will never go in her kennel, but soemdays i turn around and find puddles 3-4 times a day. I am finding myself furious and annoyed with her all the time so if anyone has any advice and if she will EVER be housebroken i would appreciate it. Thanks!
