I need some advise again...

My APBT puupy (10 weeks old) loves to ruogh play. most rough play with allot of biting. Well it hasn't been too much of a problem until the last few days... My 3 year old little boy was playing with her today & the puppy lunged at him at took a chunk out of his ear.

I have been correcting her everytime she asct aggrsive & I know this is just puppy play, but I ma a little worried about my soin getting hurt.

DOes anyone know of any way to calm my puppy down? Also, how long does this stage last? Hopefully not too much longer. Thanks.

Never leave a child that young with any age animal.

When the puppy begins to play too rough, stop. make him sit and slow down. Taking it to obediance classes will greatly help your situation.

It was a pretty good sized chunk. he had to get stitches.

What is intersting is 5 minutes later they were back at playing again, but the puppy was playing alot gentler after a good scolding.

Also, when it happened me & my wife were in the room watching them play. when somthing like that happenes you can't stop it in time.

Anyway, what we have started doing is putting her an isolated room for a while when she gets playing ot rough until she mellows out. I don't think she is dong this to be mean or to intentionally hurt anyone, she is just still learning her boundaries.

Hope she grows out of it soon.

My pups are just over six months and have been out of the stage for at least 2. I taught my pups to play nice by getting there favorite toy a restraing them from going for it with simple commands. After I told the to sit wich calmed the down I would reward them with the toy. There is a soft back book that i got from my local pet store called BULLY BREEDS. It gives you history, traing guide and really good facts. I believe it was no more than $12. I can control my dogs very well and now have fun without them hurting me or others. Another thing you want to do is use up a lot of the dogs energy by running or walking. They may calm down a little bit. Good luck with your pup I hope your experience is as good as mine.

Wow kriks im sorry to hear that happened with your pup. You really need to take the advice from the ones that gave you some. I have 4 pitbulls ranging from the age of 2 yrs- 4months. None of mine ever had hurt any of my 4 children in rough play thank god! But I toght them rite of the start no teeth..They dont take food out of your hands or dont use teeth while playing. When I give them a treat they roll it out of your hand. THe mail I got is 4 months now and he loves to rough play and he even knows teeth is a no no. But sometimes when there excited and playing things could happen. But one thing I said if my children Ever get grawled at or they hurt them I will have to resell them I would not put my dogs down because they are the best dogs we have ever owned.

So my advice is over the next month if you cant get your pup out of it I advise you to get a different one and start rite from the begaining.

Well, Good news.

Since my last post, she seems to have calmed down a bit. We have been letting her go outside a lot more & taking her for walks & she seems to be mellowing out. She also, seems to prefer chewing on toys now, instead of the kids. I think i will check out that book. I saw it at PetsMart last night.

By the way here is a picture of her

Not allowing your pup to put her teeth on you at all, ever, will also make it much less likely that she would bite in the future, she just won't think of it!
