My husband and I were waiting at the emergency vet for our kitties that we are fighting distemper with when a middle aged couple came in with their kick dog (I don't really kick these dogs, its my pet term for them heh heh) A man was there with his american bulldog which scared a little boy when it tried to say hi. All they did for the rest of the time was comment on how at least they don't have to worry about their dog doing any damage if it bites them, and how the guys dog wanted to get their dog cause it was happily wags its tail wanting to play, they were saying the guy couldn't even control the dog, it was on a leash practically sitting on his lap wagging away and pulling to get a view of their dog. Arrgh bully breed haters. Made us want to go home and get our pity so they'd be outnumbered by the bully lovers.

That ticks me off. I was at the vet the other week and my male, is agressive to other non neutered males when Charllotte is around.
There was a Boxer in there, and this lady was freeking out saying that Pitt was going to eat her "ladybug". Mine was the one growling and misbehaving (on his leash) and she had the nerve to look over at me and comment that mine at least behaved.

The boxer never even sat up, he was lying down the whole time.

I can relate, some people are just clueless. It wasn't even a PITT for cryin out loud!!!

I feel ya' Jenny. We took our Pit & our Afghan Hound to the vet for rabies shots a couple of months ago. The Pit is terrified of the vet, but he got excited over all of the other dogs & he was rolling around on his back & wagging his tail acting like a clown. This lady walks out of a room with a Sharpei & immediately says to the vet "Can we wait in the room until they get out of the waiting room, I don't want that vicious looking thing killing my precious baby". The minute she said that, the Sharpei, (female by the way), lunged out the door & attacked my male Pit. He's not a fighter, so he didn't make a move when the Sharpei bit him in the face. The lady just walks over, gets her dog by the collar, looks at me & says "I used to breed Pits, I know how vicious they are & how easily they turn on you. They'll kill any dog in sight & even your kids. See how he acted when my sweet heart came out to say Hi".!!!! I was FURIOUS!! Everyone else in the vets office started laughing & one guy even told her what a dumb a** she was if she thought my dog was mean. Boy, did I give her a mouthful! I mean, how rediculous is that???

ladybug??? sweetheart?? my goodness! my dog [akita] always gets the blame for everything based on her breed too, even though shes the one who always comes out wounded from a dog fight ANOTHER dog has started. the other day when i was at the park some kids came over and wanted to pat my dog. i said 'sure, but she might bark at you'. so the kid runs away to his parents yelling 'THAT DOG BITES, ITS BITES' i just turned around and said in a rude voice 'i said it barks' and walked away. grrr

Ive gotten to the point where I just say No when strange people ask to pet my dog. Some people are just irritating and my dogs dont deserve to have to be subject to them.
If your going to come over and ask to pet my dog and then talk trash about the breed you wont have to worry about my dog biting you, but I will

I totally understand your anger. Everytime I got to the vet with Zoe or take her into PetsMart, someone always gives me a weird look and pulls their dog closer to them when they see us. I HATE THAT!!!!!!

That also reminds me of a time when my husband and I were at petsmart with our beagle and pity and we walked over to look at the adoptable cats. both of our dogs laid down on the floor, and were hardly even looking at the cats when this lady comes by and goes off about how horrible we are giving the cats a heart attack with our dogs so close. The cats weren't even showing nay sign of being bothered, and if they did we would have left them alone.

What the fools don't know can't hurt them... I have more than once had people come up to pet my pit and had them go on about how beautiful a dog he is and then when I tell them what he is they back away with big eyes as if he's suddenly going to eat them,,,whatever.
The german shepherd was reviled in the same way as the pit bull, in the early part of the 1900's, and was called the 'devil dog', and look at it now...overbred with unstable temperments and rampant dysplasia and skin problems due to overbreeding after they became popular. If you ask me, in some ways the pit is better off not being beloved by the nation.

Once on a really nice day me and one of my friends decided to head out to the park to get our dogs some excersize.
We have a really nice walking track area at our park, so thats where we went. I had one of my females who was around 8 months old at the time, she had to of hers because hers won't try to fight one another. One was a 1yr old female and the other a male. There was a woman with her young daughter proably around 5. We were walking and they were coming the other way. They went off to the side of the track, they were going to see grandma a little ways down the track I heard the mother tell the child this. But when she seen us she moved off the track. The girl is like I'm going to go see grandma, and the mom is like WAIT! You wait for me and grabs her. Then we get close to right where they are the girl says I want to pet the puppies. The lady grabs her hand and says No you don't need to pet those dogs. Then she pulls her hand away and says I just want to pet them. Her mom says no and just looks at us and smiles. How weird. It didn't bother me much, as I don't care who doesn't like my dogs just because of their breed. She doesn't deserve to even touch my dogs. Its sad that she won't let her daughter pet them though.
This is both good and bad. On one side I think it is great that she didn't just let her kid run up to strange unknown dogs like so many parents do. The girl did just take off and was going to run right up to them. On the other hand she only did it half way right, if her girl wanted to pet them she should have asked if the dogs bite or whatever. If so then tell the girl NO, if not let her pet them. My friend was upset, she said that is so stupid, my dogs aren't even mean they are too friendly. Which is another reason to ask because her male may have knocked the girl down being the super excited dog he can be. When asked if they bite, she would have said no but he gets too excited. There was still my pup to be petted. It is really annoying! Please people stop freaking out over the dogs! This makes children grow up with fear and fear can cause them to be bit. A friend of my moms was terified of animals, her youngest son picked up on it from her and would jump away from animals and get nevous around them. Dogs can sesne that and running from a dog can cause a bite. We need some way of mass education on the breed, now wouldn't that be cool.

It's a catch 22,right now you have the ignorant fearing and banning our breed...but then when they become'educated'and find out what a wonderful dog we have, then next thing you know pits are starring in Disney movies and filling up the dogpounds along with dalmations and filling vet's offices with health problems related to overbreeding.

Pits are already filling up our pounds. I see more pits and pit mixes in our city pound than I see Dalmations or any other breed with maybe the exception of the shepard mixes.
Your local Humane Society may not be that way considering most wont even adopt out a pit. They keep them in their back rooms until time to PTS.

You are right Maydaysmom, I think thats because a lot of people do know they are wonderful dogs and they think its nice for their pets to have a litter or 2 and they can even make an xtra buck. So they just fill up the shelters. Plus irresponsible people who leave their bitches out while in heat so they get pregnant. Then all the idiots breeding their dogs to be guard dogs and cause more fear of the breed, selling to people like themselves. So either way you loose I hardly see any Dals. Shepherds I see A LOT of!!

I'm stoping by there again this afternoon to drop off some halters for the horses, and some apple treats.
