I had to take my dog Zoe to the vet today to get spayed. For those of you who don't know, Zoe is a year old Pit/Mix that has had a hard life already. She was dumped over the fence at a sheltor in the middle of the night along with her newborn puppy and the other dogs in the pin killed her puppy. We adopted her a week later. They told us that we couldn't leave with her until she was spayed. The next day someone brought 10 baby puppies to the sheltor and Zoe started nursing them. Then once we finally got her home she got a breast infection and we couldn't get her spayed until now.

I didn't think she would be as upset as she was this morning when I dropped her off at the vet. The second I opened the vet door she went nuts and I had to drag her through the door. Im scared she thinks I was leaving her. Im sure everyone feels this way when they drop their dog off at the vet. This is the first pet Ive ever owned, so this is all new to me. Im sorry this is so long I just wanted to share and I have a few questions for you guys. What should I expect when I get her home? Im sure she will be in pain. Does spaying really calm dogs down? She is pretty calm already. Thanks for any info.

Oh megan, poor zoe, I am glad to hear you are giving her a loving home. My Wylie does kind of the same thing when we go to the vet, I just cant get her in the door and they have to come out and pick her up, funny thing is she is rarely at the vet, so dont know why this reaction. She probably was freaked when she spent the time at the shelter and equates the vet with this.
Zoe will be very drugged, so you may to help her walk and assist getting her in the she will be very groggy, possibly for the first 2 days. And she will probably have to wear a cone so she doesnt teat her stitches out, YOu just want ot keep her calm for the next 3/4 days so she doesnt rip her stitches.
good luck!

Honeybear, Thanks for the advice. I called the vet and they said that she is doing fine. I can't wait to pick her up. Thanks again for the advice about the stitches. I hadn't thought of that.
