Has anyone's Pit Bull ever shown to be protective? Has your dog ever protected or saved you?

Many will say an untrained dog isn't going to protect your home and the majority of dogs would run away from a seriou confrontation. I don't believe that is true because I have seen these dogs go through great lenths to protect their owners. The APBT has a great discretion and knows when their is trouble. I feel much more secure with my house dog inside. I know she would protect me or die trying.

i cann't speak for the apbt, but i had a mastiff pit mix that jumped through a window to try and get some people who were pushing my brother. i'm sure that the dog that i have now would do the same thing though. well, at least i hope so!

My heelers are in no way trained for protection...but Griss pumled another dog that fiercely growled and snaped at me.

Smokey has bitten Granvel for play fighting with me.

Dogs don't have to be trained, they know how to act in certain situations. I believe they can sence danger.

Yes, I had an apbt that got really fired up once when me and a friend where rough housing. That was the first and only he ever showed any human agrression. Luckily he was chained up. I also have one now, that is really a little shy, but everytime this one particular neighbor of mine comes around, she acts like she wants to kill him, i dont know why, but this is the only person she acts this way toward.

We have our washer and dryer downstairs in our storage room. Which has its own seperate entrance from outside. I had gone downstairs to change out loads and Mayday stopped me at the door and wouldnt let me get in front of him. My biggest breed of wimp stood there with his heckels up growling. I had never seen him act this way before, so I told him to hush and tried to get past him and he pushed me back! I saw someone move in the back of our storage room and I totally wigged out. Turned ran upstairs and called 911. While I was on the phone with them I heard Mayday and my other two just going crazy barking and growling. I tried to get them to come in but they were barricaiding the door. The cops came arrested the guy....
I never knew my babies would be so protective. I couldnt believe it.

MaydaysMom sounds like your dogs know when their is trouble and how to react. In the right situation you can see a totally different side of your APBT(or other breed) that you never imagined existed. The female in my house seems the most protective. The others would probably rise to the occasion, but since she is in and has a bond with me I guess she acts more protective. She loves people and always greets them at the door. She thinks she has to be the center of attention. At night she is much more alert to the sounds around her. If she thinks she hears something she will lift her ears and growl and lay on my legs. I feel much safer with her walking past dark and things like that.

My wife was taking our AmStaff for a walk this past summer when they came upon an unchained, unsupervised Rotty...I think the Rotty was startled since my wife was jogging. Well needless to say- the Rotty came running out and got into a tussle with our dog...my wife began to back away and pull our dog away from the scene...the entire time the Rotty was the aggressor, and our dog was trying to get away...when the Rotty headed in the direction of my wife, our dog went for the throat of the other dog. It is odd because our dog is VERY submissive. He is generally very nice to other dogs, but I think he sensed the danger in the situation and immidiatly changed his attitude.

I felt bad for the Rotty---the STUPID owner came out and yelled at her. Perhaps a supervised dog would not have been prone to attack a person and a dog out for a jog? I lay no blame on the dog- but since that day- we have to make sure the dog is inside before we pass. That poor Rotty never gets to go for a walk- the owner is a real idiot.

Ranger isn't a pit, he is a brittany, but he is still very protective. When his sister comes over to play, and we go outside to try to get a leash on them for a walk or something (since his sister isn't allowed inside, she has yet to be potty trained!), Ranger will not allow his sister to jump on us, if she does, he comes over, shoves her down, and rather than playfighting, like normal, he FIGHTS! He also likes to protect me from people we haven't met on walks, and once he 'protected' me from someones little Winnie the Pooh flag that was on their lawn! He also 'protects' us from the yard men, and even leaves blowing by in the street. Someones old beagle once got loose, and was sniffing around in our yard, and Ranger started barking, but this time, since it was coming up to the door, he jumped up, got his paw on the door handle (you just push it and it opens, it is a glass door) and ran outside after the dog. He had opened the door once before, but he wasn't big enough then to open it far enough for him to fit out, and so it closed on his neck. Well, anyway, he got out and started running towards the dog, barking like normal (even though brittanys aren't supposed to bark and he sounds more like a german shepherd/beagle mix, yes, a deep, booming bark, with a bit of a howl at the end.) I have no doubt in my mind that were anything ever REALLY wrong, he would protect me from it.

My pity gets really upset of he sees people rough housing. We were pulling into a parking lot at a park and some people were snapping towels at each other and he started barking up a storm and grwoling. I wonder how he would have acted if he was outside the car. He also flipped when a bunch of kids were running away from the bus stop being really rowdy.
