I have a pitbull girl that's about 5 1/2 mos. old and is in obedience class but I leave her inside and she tears the carpet up. Will she grow out of this? and have any of you had this problem when this old?

every dog learns in their own time. my last pup was almost a year before we could leave his crate open at night and trust him not to tear things up while we were sleeping. Just be patient.

You have got a while to go yet!! She is still very much a 'puppy' and will be until she reaches 2-3 years old. My female Nellie is 12 months and she still tears up my backyard! You should see it! LOL

Neek is right, at 5 months old, your dog is still just a pup, most APBTs aren't completely mentally mature until they're 2 or 3 yrs old. Obedience class, while extremely helpful to both dog an owner, and great for bonding with the dog, usually doesn't help much when the dog is home alone, as there is no one there to give commands (or enforce them). It's also very possible that she's bored, what are you doing to tire her out (mind and body) before you leave? If you try adding in some morning exercise/obedience, and she's still destructive, it's probably time to start crating her, before she eats something and gets a blockage.

My dog did this very same thing. They will grow out of it, but as far as what time frame, it varies from dog to dog. Mine stopped at about 1 year. I also found that if I left the television on that the dog seemed to tear less things up. I think maybe it creates a sense of human presence for the dog and keeps them sort of occupied. Wouldn't hurt to give it a try because it definately worked for me.

I would definately crate her. If she swallowed some of the carpet it could get entangled in her intestines.
I would watch out for that.

My boyfriend and I have two pits, a 4 year old rednose and a 7 month old colby. We love them to death, but the little one, Kinzie, has been tearing anything and everything apart lately. I'm not sure if I'm glad to see that others have this problem, or angry that this may be a long phase to get through. Anyone else know what to try besides leaving on the TV. Does that "no bite" spray work??
Thanks! Laura

PHATS, No bite spray only works for certain dogs. Its just something you have to go through. 7 months is just a pup and they want to chew and play. Crating is the best solution IMO. Colby dogs usually look immpressive gots any pics??? I want to see the little guy/girl.

What bloodline is the 4 year old, rednose??

that stop chew spray did not work for my little girl Sierra. she actually liked it and would lick it. Also I got a crate for her but now when I put her in it and leave, I get back and it is drenching wet inside. I don't think it is urine (by the color and smell) I think she drools for some reason but I dont know why she has never drooled any other time whatsoever. I say i think it was drool because I saw her drooling a little bit while in it but I mean it was SOAKED! It is also not water from her bowl cuz I took it out the last time and had the same problem, here is a pic of her for so you guys and gals can see who we are talking about.

LOOK AT THAT FACE!!!! it's like she's saying what i didn't do anything, why are you mad again? she's really gotten bigger since the last pic. that spray stuff worked with my dog. we got it at petsmart, it was like sour apple or somthing like that. but some dogs just don't care about the spray, they'll just chew it up anyways.

My dog actually consumed the entire bottle of that no chew stuff. I of course had to sample it before he did it just to see what it was, and I can't even imagine it. It was the WORST thing ever. He too eventauly stopped chewing on things.
