For the past 5 days our 8 year old pit bull has been constipated...he has grown 3 times his size in the stomach area and is uncomfortable...we have tried everything, ex-lax, enemas, milk of magnesia, etc. is there anything we can try to help break him up so he can go? We can't afford a vet at the moment due to financial distress. Any help will be greatly appreciated...Thank you.

I would be very concerned and would try my hardest to get him into the vet. That could be a possible bloat that could be swelling his stomach and releasing toxins that could be eating his stomache walls away. I would take him to the AEC immediately!

I think I would take him to the vet as he may have swallowed something that he shouldn't have and may not be able to pass it thru. My mother just had to put one of her dogs(small dog) to sleep because she swallowed a penny. The acids in her stomach started eating at the penny and was almost like battery acid in her and was slowly killing her.
I would have to work out a deal with the vet. If they are concerned about an animals health they will probably make payment arrangements with you.

He really needs to get to the vet, as the others said, it could be a blockage from something he ate recently. Bloat is normally a much faster killer (often a dog is dead within hours of starting to bloat), but is a possibility as well. Call your vet and see if you can work out a payment plan, or check with family/friends to see if you can borrow enough to cover vet costs.

I used to rule out bloat after the clients would say oh this has been going on for a day or so, until we had gotten a retriever in from a boarding place who had been swelling for 3 days.
Sadly it had been so long that it was beyond repair.
The possibility of a bloat just scares me.
