Hi.. as you all know from a previous post, I got my dogs altered. Well, Saige is doing GREAT! Jekkyl got neutered and a week later they gave him Droncet(sp?) for tapeworms which it worked. Anyhow, here we are almost two weeks later and for the past week, Jekkyl has been very sick. He has been throwing up everything he eats practically, but still gaining weight. He does not eat as much and he seems to vomit all the time. He even wakes himself up from a sleep to vomit on occasion. I have been watching him and all, and he has been throwing up a lot lately. Not sure if it is because there are maybe still worms in him or just his system getting back to normal or what it is. I called the vet and because he has normal stools and is still eating and drinking and active, they feel there is no serious issues. If anything changes, he needs to go in. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? I am thinking of rushing him to another vets office, but want some advice on what it could be. He is UTD on all of his shots. Oh, he also got his first rabies shot when he was neutered. Anything anyone can tell me is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Angie.

Have you searched your house to be sure that Jekkyl didnt get into anything? Did he happen to get into the trash at all?
Do you have cats?
Sade was hacking up a storm last week sometime and at first I thought it might be kennel cough. The more I watched her the more I realized she was actually dry heaving. She was throwing up her food and water but she was swallowing it back down.
When I took her to the vet and we got xrays it showed a ton of clay litter in her stomach, intestines, and all the way down her GI tract. The vet said that the constant vomiting was caused by her body trying to rid itself of the foreign substance. We are just waiting for nature to take its course right now.
I would definately get a second opinion. I know that sometimes parasites can make them very sick and sometimes can cause vomiting. Either way I think Jekkyl should definately be seen again.

Different food? Bad batch of food? Post surgery meds (antibiotics or such)? Reaction to the worming meds? IBS (think that's what it's called)? It wouldn't hurt to have a different vet check him out, just to be safe. has he gotten his stitches from the neuter out yet? If not, you can have both done at once.

It also could be a reaction to the anistesia, I know Kalie had alot of problems with it and was vomiting for quite awhile and got all of her shots done then as well, also the cat thing can be an issue as well. Could also be him getting rid of the tapeworm that might of been in his system, the drontal does take awhile to kick in to kill those little nasty wormies in the intestines. Give him a few more days and see what goes on from there.

well thank you everyone for such a quick response. To answer some of the questions, we do have two cats, but no litter box. the cats go outside, however, the other day one of them got left inside and went potty in the bathroom. I discovered it when I heard the two pigs..oops.. I mean dogs, in the bathroom eating it.. Gross but it is dogs for ya! Also, my dad had the dogs for a day, he just loves them. I do nto give them any sort of bones that are not vet approved- however, my dad being old fashion has a different way of thinking. He of course gave them bones (leg bones) from deer. I thought maybe a peice was lodged in his throat- but doubt that because he dug up the snow to eat grass which is usually a good indication his tummy is upset and needs to throw up. He has gottenn into the cat food which I figure could be doing it as well. I am going to try to hold off to see how he does until Tuesday- then if he is still not better, I will take him to my regular vet whom was on vacation for the holidays so I had to settle for another. She will know what to do. His stiches are the disolvable ones, so he doesn't need to go back to get them taken out. I think it is either that he is having an allergic reaction to the worming meds or it is working at trying to get the worms out of his system- because he has only been sick since we gave him those pills.

Cat food is much higher in protein than dog food, and very well could be making him sick.

One more thing I though of since I posted is that maybe he's bolting his food, gulping it down too fast? If you feed kibble, you can stop this by putting a large rubber ball (big enough that he can't swallow it, too) or mid-sized rock (cleaned in boiling water, etc first) in the food bowl to keep him from being able to inhale the food, or you can try pouring it over a larger area, like the floor or a pie-pan so he has to collect them up, rather than just gulp from the bowl. Another option is to moisten the food with a bit of water so it gets sticky, which will make it harder for him to get a bunhc at once, but will also eliminate any teeth cleaning effects he gets from the kibble.
