hello everyone,

i'm new to the forum and i'm sure you guys have been asked seen these questions a hundred times but if you guys can give any help/advice i would really really appreciate it. and this is kind of long. sorry. but i have so many questions.

my hubbie and me got a 6 week old pit pup about 2 weeks ago. we never owned a dog before and we did lots of research regarding the breed before even considering getting our storm. in all our research we fell in love with the pitbull breed and decided to get her. we wanted to wait until she was at least 8 weeks old but was told by the owner that her mother, crystal, had quit nursing the pups and the pups at 6 weeks had already been weaned. so we decided to take her.

the problem we have now is that she bites alot. she does know bit inhibition though. we have already trained her to sit and come. she still needs a little fine tuning but she gets the main idea and she does it about 80% of the time. but she can't seem to understand the "no bite" command. we either grab her by the nape and pull up slightly and give the command or we gently grab her mouth and hold it close and say no bite. since we started teaching her she doesn't bite as much but i'm not sure that she understands. and i'm afraid she'll never stop. we already have her signed up for a obedience class and it will start in about 2 weeks, but i'm not sure if they'll train the no bite command.

as well, when do the puppies start sleeping thru the nite?? she's beginning to understand that she has to use the bathroom outside but of course she's still having accidents inside the house. just the peeing accidents the pooping she's really good about. but none the less, we're up at 2am every morning to take her out. and she's the best damn alarm i've ever owned, she's up again at 6am!!

and last question, i promise, how long before they finally get the crate training?? we finally have managed to keep the crate downstairs in the living room at nite. before we were carrying it upstairs to our bedroom every nite and carrying it back downstairs every morning. and trust me its not to fun carrying around a 48" crate at 6am still half asleep.

THANK YOU!!! for taking the time to at least listen to me ramble on. any advice would be SO SO GREATLY appreciated!!

dont trust anyone who says you can have the dogs early! but by what you say she seems to be in good health. the biting thing is very normal. theyll want to chew everything. just tell it no and replace whatever its chewing on with something its allowed to chew on. it takes a few months for puppies bladders to develop so give the loo training time. there will always be accidents but if the pup understands the concept of loo training then id say your doing pretty well! i used to have to take my dog out to pee every 30 mins as she had a bladder infection when she was a pup. and wed also have to clean her up because shed pee herself in her sleep. hope all goes well with the lil one!

I am also new to the forum and have a APBT puppy that is 10 weeks old. These issues must be normal because I am having the exact same things going on here in PA. Comet bites at our hands, feet, and loves to get your pantlegs. My little girls are almost to the point of being afraid of her since her teeth are like little razors. I have been trying to use the "No Bite" too and it is not working. I bought this bitter spray stuff to spray on ourselves and it does not work either. As far as house training, we have a long way to go. We take her outside and then she comes in and goes. It is frustrating. We crate her at night and she has been crying but this seems to get better every night. I have her enrolled into training classes, but it doesn't begin until January so we're just trying on our own. Good luck with it, we just love our newest addition to pieces. It helps to know that someone else is going through the same thing.

Biting (like they said) is perfectly normal. All puppies are going to do that, and believe me...I know they bite hard. Well, not neccessarily hard, but their teeth are just alittle TOO sharp. You have to remember that they (like babies) are teething, too. Make sure they have plently of toys to play with and always have one handy incase the playing with you, gets a little too rough. As far as house training, good luck. You sound like you're doing a great job so far with your pup...lots of attention...and it's good you're asking questions, so don't feel like you're annoying anyone. (That's what this thing is for!) Trick was almost 5 months old before he was COMPLETELY house broken. He's the most stubborn little sh*t I've ever had. But I love him more than anything... If it's possible (with a fenced yard or...a large open area) let the pup outside by herself. I found that once Trick didn't have my boyfriend or I as a distraction, he did much better. Also, when you take her outside, make sure to say "outside" or "potty" or something to that nature. I've found that when they know what those simple words mean, it's a lot easier to understand what they want...If Trick whines, and I say POTTY and that's what he has to do, he barks and such...but if it's not what he wants, I know right away. It's easier to tend to him like that! :-P
