that's funny! lol i don't know how you can train him to be more protective. the apbt's nature is to be human friendly. but look at it this way, if a dog ever tries to break in your pit will protect you.

If you bought the dog hoping it'd protect your house then I can only laugh. I'm sorry someone broke into the house, but pits were bred not to bite people.

Such is luck.

I would have to agree. get an alarm system or a different dog (rots & shepards might be a good choice)

I can't believe you made me bring this up! Haha

Someone tried to break into my cousins house about 6 months ago (she has a FEMALE PIT).
When my cousin came home, she found her dog choking...she freaked out and rammed her hand down the dogs throat and pulled out what she was choking on.
A HUMAN FINGER
Someone had tried to break in and the dog attacked him...
3 days later the guy went to the hospital for his finger. (i guess he figured if he waited a few days, no one would put 2 and 2 together.)
Anyways...they arrested him...
FUNNY HUH :-P

That story is a classic!! I haven't stopped laughing, I don't know what I'd do if one of my dogs was choking on a human finger!! I'll definately tell my boyfriend that one when he gets home from work!!! Keep up the funny stories.

Ha Ha no its not funny it is sick!

If you want a guard dog get a damn shepherd and stop trying to make our breed mean!!!!

We dont need any mean pits, we need to go back to the days this great breed was a family pet and a war hero!

The dog isn't vicious...she's very sweet. She was just protecting her home. I'd want my dog to do the same thing. What is the robber gonna do? Go to the cops and be like "Dude...I was robbing this house and a dog bit my finger off" READ more carefully and think before you comment.

Yes, sadly some pitbulls do bite people, no, it's not good for the breed but it happens and sometimes even when the dog has been raised properly, although not very often. Most bite because their owners WANT them to, it's very sad for pitbulls because they try to please their owners so much that they don't realise what they are doing is wrong. They are victims of their willingness to please people!

People actually HAVE done this, and HAVE sued people for being bitten by their dog as they broke into the person's house. These days, they're considering dogs to be "weapons", some breeds "deadly weapons", so if someone is only breaking and entering, and your dog attacks them, YOU could end up in jail, depending on the laws of the state/city... especially in places where they have those "meet force with like force" laws.

If someone was to kick in your door and enter your house, you would want your dog to sit idlely by? no, i would never raise my dog to be mean, but im pretty sure if a stranger entered the home by force, the dog will natually attack them...

tho this is true... i still wouldnt jus sit there and let someone rob me.. i wouldnt use my dog for guard dog purposes.. thats what alarms and security is for.. but if someone entered my home with intensions of taking from me and my family.. i would hope my dog will attack him.. and i will follow right behind him with a bat or 12 guage.. what is the world comin to if you can sue someone who stopped you from robbing them!?!?

I have heelers which can have temperments of the pitts, and carry a rep like them as well. which we all know is false...anyhow, if someone ever broke into our house, the dogs would probably help them carry the stuff out!!! though if someone tried to mess with me or my boyfriend...thats a completely diffrent story!

Funny how they can be, terrible how people can be.
