I have two 10 week old Pit pups. One of them was the runt of the litter. She has a very thin coat...... I can see a few small patches (they look almost like stripes) where her fur hasn't grown in yet. I haven't noticed this in a pup before. Is it normal? The other pup is from the same litter, & her coat is fine.....I've seen mange, & it doesn't look like mange to me. Plus, she isn't scratching. She isn't loosing fur either. It just doesn't look like it's growing in. Any ideas or suggestions? I own the father to the pups as well (yes, he is neutered, & the pups will be spayed before their first heat. The father was bred to the female before I got him. I had him neutered almost immediately after I got him. Didn't want to breed him). The father to the pups has a good coat, no problems. I've seen the mother a few times as well. She doesn't have any coat problems.....Am open to any advice. Thanks a million.

It may be that because she was the runt of the litter that she didn't develop her fur properly in the womb. I've seen a lot of runts that almost always have some sort of difference to the rest of the litter, most with more serious problems than that, like the runt from my own litter. He was about three times smaller than the rest and he had a cleft palate which in dogs means that the roof of the mouth didn't develop properly and as a result he couldn't suck milk without it coming straight out his nose. Subsequently he died of starvation. I would say that your pup's fur will grow eventually but it would be an idea to get some advice from your vet. In the meantime make sure that she gets enough warmth and a puppy jacket/coat will help if the weather turns cold. Let me know if/when you take her to the vet what he says.
