Greetings: My wife and I decided to foster a dog for a local rescue organiztion. We already have a two year old AmStaff about a year ago. Last night we brought pup home after she had her spay surgery. 1st and foremost, our dog Russ doesn't like small dogs, but we set everything up to make the foster painless, and care free for both dogs. Everything is going pretty good. Our dog Russ is a little jealous, and lashed out at the pup once or twice. Not major, but enough. We have them seperated, and she is safely in her crate while we are away. Q: Does anyone have any advice to help our dog make this transission? He is slowly warming up to her, but he doesn't really like the situation yet. She is a purebred Pit, and about as friendly as they come. 9 weeks old, and adorable. We have considered keeping her, but are still treating her as a foster. Russ gets priority, but she gets plenty of love and attention. Any thoughts would be welcomed. at first i thought that you were talking about a child. i mean a human child, i know that many peoples dogs are "children". okay so you're amstaff is a boy and the pup is a girl, thats a good thing bc opposite sex dogs tend to get along better, not always though. if you think that your dog is ajusting to having a little sister, and you guys think that your ready to then i'de say go for it. if you decide to keep her make sure that you get her plenty of stuff to chew on. If he's becoming more accepting, then it sounds like you've got things right. Just keep a close eye on them, and they should work things out. IP: Logged |
