My girl is going to be sevenmonths old in a few days. She is coming towards the end of her heat. The bleeding is slowing down, swelling is not quite as bad, however she is starting to move her tail sideways and out of the way when touched or sniffed. She got a bath and (it might be gross) but I was her genitals with very gentle soap (got to keep it clean) and she cocked her tail up as if to like when I were touching her vagina, then the water to clean off the soap she also liked. Lately, well just starting today she has been very restless. Pacing, up and down off the furniture, in and out side, just can not make up her mind. Is this normal when she is in heat or should I be concerned..? Maybe she was just bored but I am wondering because it kind of bothered us. Also, she seems to want nothign to do with her "Daddy" (my fiancee) whichwas her favorite person in the world. Any suggestions?? Angie Saige n Jekkyl IP: Logged |

That is precisely the right time for your dog to be cocking her tail to the side. When bleeding slows, she becomes receptive to any male dogs that are around and if there are none, then I guess you are the next best thing, seeing that you stimulated her vagina (not meaning to of course!) Females are on heat for about three weeks, the first week, swelling of the vulva and leaking blood, she should not accept a male during this time, however the second and third weeks she will become "horny" for want of a better word. Sorry! and may even try to find an interested male! The most cunning time is towards the end of the third week when some female's vulvas go almost completely back to normal but she can still get pregnant! After about three weeks, she should go off heat but be careful anyway for afew more days. Oh yeah, that advice is if you don't want to breed her. I didn't have a clue to heat cycles until I was fooled! Then I read up on female heat cycles. So if I sound like a textbook, thats why! Anyway I hope I could help. IP: Logged |

No w in hell!! My girl will not ever be bred I am just trying to make sure I know exactly what is going on with the timeline because I do not want her getting pregnant. Jekkyl, our male, is getting neutered Thursday. Saige can't because she is in heat- well I talked to them this morning and if her swelling is down they will, because she swelled alot. But I am trying to be cautious until them. Thank you for the info Neek.. it was very helpful.. Angie Saige n Jekkyl IP: Logged |
