My 4 month old female "Sassy" APBT was diagnosed with Localized Demodex Mange today. My vet is treating her with Amitraz Dip. Does this usually clear up? I paid a pretty penny for her with the intensions of breeding her to my male. What about the breeder who sold her to me? Is there anything I can do?

Unfortunately, price doesn't mean much in the world of APBTs, even even the most expensive dogs may have health problems. The mange will most likely clear up with the dips, but could (and it's pretty common for this to happen) resurface anytime she's put through a lot of stress.... being in season, having/nursing pups, being sick, etc. All dogs have the mites that cause Demo, but will only show signs of mange if their immune system is weak. The weak immune system is linked to genetics, and is often passed down through lines of dogs. It's possible that your girl is just going through a little rough spot, and that's why she has mange, or it's also possible that she's inherited a weak immune system fro mone or both or her parents. In addition to mange, dogs with weak immune systems often have other problems, allergies (which are also an inherited condition), susceptibility to disease/infection, etc. I would contact the breeder and ask them if any dogs in their line has mange, how bad it was, and if it reoccured after being treated. If any of the close relatives had generalized demo, or if it reoccured after treatment, I would have her fixed, as there's no reason to pass on weak genes to another generation of dogs.
