I just Rescued a beautiful fawn colored pit bull with a pink nose and around his eyes. He was sittin at a local dog pound on death row. After spending some time with him I decided such a beautiful animal should not die because the name pit was tagged on his breed, while taking him home in a open dog carrier he lunged at me for no apparent reason, I decided to give him another chance. while collaring him he lunged again very agressive, although he didnt bite I know he could have hurt me as I was kneeling. Again he lunged at me when i went to water him for no reason he was calm happy and wagging tail in good mood then in split second he was after me. I just got him today I have not been able to have vet check him over although from tag I know he has had some shots, there are no scars to show he was a fighting dog, and he seems young. With this sudden attack method I am not even sure my vet will see him and frankly he scares me. I dont want to take him to pound as I know they will destroy him. I am curious if there is anything I can do.I know nothing about this breed. Any and all advise would be in great help ...Lisa in Tx IP: Logged |

Are you sure he's "lunging" in aggression, and not just jumping around in play or excitement? Is it at all possible for you to take him to a trainer or behaviorist and have him evaluated? Is he your first dog? First pit bull? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm just trying to get a better idea of the situation. I would definitely take him to have him evaluated by a trainer who knows and understands the breed (lunging aggressively at people is NOT normal, but a good trainer will be able to tell the difference between playful and aggressive behavior) before doing anything else. If you could give a general area as to where you're located, someone may be able to suggest a trainer... IP: Logged |

Nevermind, I see you're in Texas Are you anywhere near this group? http://www.spindletoppitbullrefuge.org/ They're one of the biggest independent rescues in the US, and if you contact them, maybe they can either eval him, or refer you to someone who can. They do have two branches, Austin and Houston. IP: Logged |
