I got my two little ones they are five months old.. will be six in a few days. I am wondering about temperment testing and canine good citizenship-- is there a certain age? I know Jekkyl especially would do great. The Canine Good Citizenship I am QUITE sure they need to be older however, I would like them both temp tested. Also, I was wondering about weight pulling, frisbee and springpoles. I am not going to bother with any of this until they are about a year old to make sure their are physically mature enough for it all, however, with any of this to be shown- do they need to be purebred dogs? As well as TT and CGC do they need to be pure bred? Angie IP: Logged |

Dogs can be any age for the CGC test, but need to be at least 18 months for a TT. The reason beign that the TT is supposed to test the dogs' core temperament, which isn't fully developed until that age in most breed (still not fully developed in some). As for springpoles, frisbees, weight pulling, etc, requirements vary depending on which club/registry the trials are held through. The ADBA, for example, only allows intact, ADBA registered APBTs to compete in their weight pulls, except for "fun pulls". The UKC will require that you get an ILP on your dog (an ILP is a "limited privelege" registration, which allows your dog to compete in just about every UKC activity except conformation. Dogs must be fixed to get an ILP, and will be "registered" as the breed they most closely resemble), if they're not already registered. The IWPA (International Weight Pull Association) will allow dogs of any breed or mix to compete. I don't know anything about frisbee dog trials, but would guess that in most, any breed or mix can compete, as there are a lot of mixed breeds doing so. One bad thing about frisbee is that the dogs can put a lot of wear and tear on their knees, and with APBTs already being prone to cruciate tears, you have to be extra careful. Springpole isn't really a competitive sport, just a fun way for your dog to exercise. Some clubs have "hang time" competitions as part of their shows, but they're not something that has it's own venue yet. IP: Logged |
