i'm new to this board and just want to say hello to everyone, hopefully one of you guys will be able to point me in the right direction. here's my problem this guy that i work with was trying to find a home for a female apbt pup, so i said that i would take her,and give her a good home. bc i know the pple that this guy associates with and i didn't want one of those clowns getting the dog and making her mean. he told me that he was selling the pups for this lady and that he had already sold the pup to a couple, but when they broke up, she got left with the dog. so she just gave the dog back to the guy i work with. and thats why he gave her to me for free. but i don't really know, this guys kinda shady, i don't really trust him at all.
okay here's where things start to get fishy. when he gave her to me he told me that she had papers. well a few days passed and when i would see him at work he wouldn't really say anything about getting them to me. so i asked him when i could get the papers. and he said that the lady he was selling the pups for hadn't gotten them yet.
he was just like "yeah i know i need them too", bc he has 2 pups out of the litter. but he wouldn't give me a time frame. so i've just been bugging the hell out of him, now he's saying that he dosn't know when the lady is gonna get around to registering the pups. so he was saying something about getting a d.n.a. test for his pups. here's my question is that even possible? and another thing he keeps telling me that the pups have a "monster bloodline", what the hell does that mean? i've never heard of that bloodline. is it just like slang or what? will someone please help me? i mean i could live without papers, bc i don't believe in breeding more dogs that will sit in shelters or wind up in bad homes. i just want to know what kind of stock she comes from. but so far she's got a great little personality and gets along with our other dog (my girlfriends boston terrier), but i've had apbts before and know how they can be so i'm keeping a watchful eye on them. she's only like 4 months old right now but she's some pretty big feet to grow into. i've never been this attached to a dog before she's really the best dog i've ever had. thanks in advance for anyone who responds to this!!

Hey you got a good Dog. I would get her spayed and have her become a CH cough pooch.
Good Luck

I think he is meaning an "Awesome" or a "Terrible" bloodline.. not really sure, but never heard of Monster as a bloodline.. lol. Great that you got yourself a good little poochy!! I myself have a female APBT and a male that is half APBT and half Boston Terrier. Great little guy too! lol, gooy mix!! They are going to get spayed November 20th.. Poor fellas!! Anyhow.. Ask him for the lady (the one he is sellign them for) phone number or address so you can speak with her personally. Do not make it an arguement or anythign but remind him now and then that you would like papers after that. You do not want to cause a dispute considering that you work together and all. But get this lady's number and call her yourself (If there even is a lady he is selling them for) I am really happy that you took this dog from someone as sketchy seeming as this guy seems.. the world needs more people that will do things like that.. You are a good person.. and keep in mind, you/I/anyone may not be able to save them all but even just one is a help.. Good luck with her.. love to see pics!!

hey guys - thanks for responding, i already asked the guy for the phone number and he told me that "the lady" didn't want to be contacted, or bothered. so i'm just like what ever. i don't care i'm not going to show her i just wanted to make sure that she isn't some backyard bred beast that's goiing to weigh 120 lbs. when she grows up, bc that's what happened to me before i bought an apbt, bull mastiff mix. i was stupid. he did turn out to be a great dog though. but any ways back to the subject, i've pretty much given up on talking to this guy. so now i'm trying to find out about maybe a d.n.a. test. someone told me that it would be possible if you knew who the parents were.

hey maine- i'm working on the pics, but it may take a while as i'm not really a computer person. i would love to see pics of your apbt, boston mix!!! i bet he/she is adorable. isn't that the dog that was used in ww1? how do i post pics? oh yeah- before i forget, what signs will my pup show when coming into heat? and is there anything i can do to avoid getting little spots everywhere?

DNA test for what? To tell if it is purebred? No DNA test will do that. You can test the pup to verify it is from the parents who also have to be DNA'd

There is not a DNA test yet that can determine breed or line of a dog. Even between breeds, dogs DNA is too similar to be able to tell the difference between breeds. There is one that can verify a dog came from certain parents, which I suppose you could use to verify that the dog was a purebred APBT... if you wanted to verify the parentage of his sire/dam and any ancestors all the way back to dogs that were KNOWN to be purebred APBTs, but that's not exactly a realistic option. If you're not worried much about her papers fro showing, etc, then I wouldn't really worry about DNA testing, as long as you're happy with her.

As for her lineage, I've heard of several "monster kennels" and "monster lines", mostly these people are peddling oversize pit bulls, some are more reputable than others. "Monster line" could mean just about anything. Here are some possibilities

"Monster pit bulls" kennel http://www.geocities.com/monsterpitbulls/

"Top Dogg Kennels", has a stud dog named monster (also listed on the above site). http://www.topdoggkennels.com/index2.html

Apparently "Monster" really gets around, here he is again on another kennel's site: http://www.gottilinekennels.com/MONSTERPAGE.html

There he is again: http://www.blueflamekennel.com/rock.html

Anyway, the only real way to find out is to contact the breeder/owners of the parents.

Only thing I can recommend about not getting blood spots everywhere is getting her spayed before she goes into heat. My dogs usually swelled and licked a lot before they started bleeding. Their appetites wer emore picky and they were moody..
