I have a 9 week old pit puppy named sierra (a female) we got her at six weeks and I was wondering.... she has a tendency to chew on us. Our hands, feet, etc.. Doing the puppy thing. She also likes to snap at our faces. Is this normal and how do I stop this? We had another male pit we never had this problem with. He was always so calm since he was a pup. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Sikz.. In my experiences with dogs biting at hands and all.. a stern "NO!" works well. Also, put your thumbs on their outer lips and push their lips (at the corner of their mouth) into their mouth.. that way they bite their mouth instead of you and learn quite fast that biting is not an enjoyable acctivity. Also, when the dog gets over excited. Just ignore it and walk away like you are very upset. The pup will learn faster that way than if you were to sit and yell at it. It learns that if you take the time to yell (or lecture..etc..) it feels dominant. It feels that it is overcoming you and has control to piss you off so to say. So when there is behavior you do not want happening, say NO in a stern serious voice and walk away, avoiding the dog when it wants attention for about fifteen minutes. It will learn in time.. It has a lot of puppy in it, so it is full of it.. It has so much energy and is just a little rebellious turd.. do not get frustrated, it is a big job.. and the patience and hard work will pay off in the end.. Females tend to be harder to train, they like to push things more to see how much they can get away with.. Good luck to you and the pupper!! IP: Logged |
