Hey everyone,
I will be picking up a female Pit Bull for foster care today after work. This poor gal has been bounced around three times to three different shelters...they finally asked me to take her. Her name is Briggette Bardot and apparently very friendly, but has become depressed in the kennel. Any advise for me on how to introduce my stuck up male to her?

Also, I'd love to find her a home this weekend....where does everyone think is the best place to home a dog?....I'm new at this sorta thing,,,any advise is appreciated!

Cheers

Not getting into the introduction thing right now (don't have time, and it depends a lot on the individual dogs involved), but here's some things that might help with adopting her out. First, most foster situations end up being for at least several weeks, so don't get your hopes too high for adopting her out this weekend (one of ours, a JRT/pit mix, was here for several months). Some rescues actually like to keep their fosters longer, so they can know more about the dog in order to be able to place them with the family most suited for them, decreasing the chances of a return. Just something to think about You might want to try listing her on PBRC (they have to be spayed first though, but they might make an exception if you have her spayed before she's adopted out, I'm not sure?), or contacting other rescuers (even if they're not in your area, they may have been contacted by potential adopters from around your area) and seeing if they've had anyone contact them about a dog with her characteristics. You have to be cautious in "advertising" a pit bull to the general public, as they can be deceiving when there's something they want, and it's easy enough to play the "perfect owner" over the phone or through emails, even on a home visit, so be careful.

Goob, thank-you for your words of caution.

You make a lot of sense in the things you say. She will be remaning in the family for now, but if does get adopted I want the person(s) to sign a contract with me stating I can come visit her....what time frame do you think? I know a dogs behavior....I would know right away if they were abusing her....I'd do an un expected house call atleast once Maybe they won't even know I made that un expected house call I plan on being EXtremley careful...I know this city and I know what kinds of people here like the breed...so I will be extremley cautious

Princess, just wanted to let you know I suggested a Pit Bull Awareness day and they loved it! She's finding out the details and I will be educating on the breed. I plan on going through the SPCA to get the medias attention...It's working Thank-you for your advise All the Pit Bulls thank-you TOO

Shmoopie,
I am so happy ...That just makes my day..
As for introducing your dogs,I would try it somewhere else besides your house and your yard.Maybe you should take Duke with you to go pick her up and let them get to know each other there.Duke might have a problem with you just bringing her home.
Just let me know if I can help you with anything else.I will be starting on editing my news letter this weekend,so I should have you some copies by next week(I am hoping).

I am at a loss now with this damn SPCA.

I took home Bardot Friday after work. Just as I arrived a man called who wanted to adopt her. It has turned into one big ugly mess. I had to bring her back...my male and her did not click and she was going through too much anxiety to keep her at my place.

Anyways, this guy wanted to come and adopt her, but they told him NO...I couldn't believe it....they said NO.....

I will not be helping this shelter anymore...I mean come one.....someone wants to adopt her and love her, but they don't even think about him cause he said he's an experienced Pit Bull owner...I'm just so shocked....

Bardot will be okay though...she will be placed in another foster home this week where she will have other doggies to pla with...she was a real darling
