Hello again,

Thought I'd ask here as I can't figure it out lol

When I get home from wherever, be it work or just from being out...my dog runs straight to me, greets me then runs strait for his food dish and starts chomping away.

When people come over he does the same thing....runs up and does his greeting ritual, then turns around - straight for the food bowl and eats...dumps a lil here and there..and then goes back to wanting attention from who ever just came over.

Anyone elses dog(s) do this? Or maybe someone knows the mentality behind this?

Im not sure about when people come over but my dog doesnt eat when im not home so after she greets me she runs for her food. It is always down for her she just wont eat if im not here. She also doesnt eat if im not upstairs she has to be atleast one room from me this is because of her separation anxiety but my older dog doesnt eat while im gone either. Just a thought

One of our dogs (my dad's Cocker Spaniel) does this, everytimes someone (or another dog) comes in, she runs over to the food bowl and starts gobbling it down. I think it may be because of the stress/excitement of a "visitor". Goo of course runs over to my chair and starts "cobbing" (that "nibbly" thing they do with just their front teeth that looks like they're eating corn on the cob) the blanket on it :rolleyes

Thanks for the thought Rotty Mommy and Goob.

Rotty Mommy, how is the seperation anxiety going for you gal? Sounds like you've worked up to being able to go to another room without her trippin?

Cheers'

Thanks for asking schmoopie. Her separation anxiety is much better she still jumps up ont the door within 5 seconds after I leave but she chews on a bone or sleeps while Im gone. And she drinks while Im gone too I think. My oldest dog usually goes downstairs and sleeps while Im gone. So I think it is Abby who is drinking but I am not positive of it yet. I actually contacted a behaviorist that specializes in Rotties about a month ago about her separation anxiety and her aggressiveness towards strangers coming in the house. We talked for like 3 hours and she gave me alot of good advice so we have made great improvements on all her little issues. She is still a big mooch and follows me everywhere but she is a rottie. She actually will give me one room distance sometimes usually in the evening when she is getting tired. I guess she doesnt want to follow me around as much then. She is starting to treat my fiance the same way she treats me which is good because some of her independence is starting to come out so she isnt as clingy. I will keep you posted here and there but for now I am happy she has made tremendous improvements health wise and behavior. Good luck with all the pooches and i will talk to everyone later.
