You say that you don't recommend that current PETS be put down, but what about killing sweet-natured, harmless "Pit Bulls" that are not pets, but are currently living in shelters, hoping to find a loving forever home? That is what happens when a breed ban goes into effect. I'm sorry, but the truth of the matter is that it is extremely tough to find a good argument supporting breed bans, because a "Pit Bull" is not even a legitimate breed. A "Pit Bull" is any dog that resembles a certain profile either by physical characteristics or "behavioral" charachteristics. This includes dogs such as Patterdale Terriers, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Rottweilers (yes, several reports have been made about "pit bull" attacks, when the dog was in fact a Rottweiler), Boxers (mistaken all the time), and in one particular case that I recall, a Beagle. I live in Chicago, IL, USA, and I volunteer at an animal shelter that gladly accepts American Pit Bull Terriers and all other breeds with open arms. If a breed ban ever goes into effect, all of our "pit bull type dogs" will have to be put down. If that happens, you'd better believe I would want damages for the shelter for the costs that will be incurred to do so, as well as all of the money the shelter has spent on medical care for these dogs. I will also want to be compensated personally, as well as all of our other volunteers, for my emotional distress. Our shelter supervisor, who dedicates her life to these dogs, should be awarded enough money to live the good life for the rest of her years, and never have to work again. I do realize this sounds completely unreasonable, but nobody ever takes these things into account. Not to mention that when a breed ban goes into effect, current owners of those breeds need to muzzle their dogs at all times, and carry tens of thousands (at least) in insurance policies. It also then becomes impossible to rent a home. I own an American Pit Bull Terrier. If I am ever affected by a breed ban, my dog and I will probably end up homeless.

Hi all,

Im feeling the pitbull connection lol=)
I love my dogs so much and really feel for ya Tybrax, I would move away from where I am if it would keep my dogs safe from harm or if the laws ever changed here.

I really must commend you for your commitment to your dogs =)

Glad to see such a strong bond between man and dog.

Russ
