my tortoise for the last few weeks has been inactive and sleeping alot.. is there a problem or is it jsut the cold weather. i am feeding his greens and a commercial fruit blend. (pellets) please respond. ty

Hi there.. I don't own a tortoise, but I own a red eared slider turtle, and I know he gets "lazy" when he isn't getting enough UV light. Might check into that idea.

My turtle use to get really lathargic when she didn't have enough heat. Because she didn't have enough heat she wasn't digesting her food properly.

Most turtles (I'm not sure about Turtoise) need to be warm to digest their food properly.

So I would do as AmyGerbilGirl suggested and make sure he is hetting enough light.

You should try posting this in the fish & aquarium sections more people check it and it counts as an aquarium question.

i dont think you want him to do that crank up the heat a lil i also have a RES long as i keep the temp up he is fine water 78-84 and a nice basking area at 88-95ish keeps him happy
but a good turtle forum www.turtletimes.com check them out great place for turtle talk
