Ok I got a few Questions for someone who breeds cockatiels. My tiels are umm well I guess it would be grooming each other. Nala is our Female, she is always rubbing her head on our male BamBam. he enjoys it and returns the favor, but then he pecks and squeals at her. then moves away. she then squeals back, but will move closer to him, and the process repeats itself. then he starts the singing show, but then it dont stop he keeps singing, and it turns to songs that he has heard, my Question is! are they getting ready to breed? I know that I will need a nesting box, but I guess I'm looking for a time frame here. I'm not sure how old they both are as I got them Nala for christmas and her mate died 3 weeks ago (Simba) from an illness from the pet store.the tiels Avai vet confirmed this. the pet store owner said that Nala was about 3 months old. he thinks. we are not sure how old BamBam his. both have their long tail feathers. well Bam Bam did until he got it caught in the corner of the cage while hanging up side down like a bat. so What do I do? do I go out this weekend and get a nesting box or wait? and if I do get a box and she has laid eggs, I know how to ck them to see if they have been fertilized, but will she attach me and be protective of the nest? I always had male birds, never a female so this is so new to me. I would love to have feathery grandchildren, just want to do things right. as one day I'll be a human grandmother. that is easy for me there.. he he he he. birds are different. please lend the advise. its greatly appreciated.
