Hello my son and i were talking last night and he said he would to have a bird. I'm not sure what kind he has not had a bird before we have 3 dogs, 2 cats and a iguena. dont worry the bird will be in his room away from the cats. so we are not sure if we want a cockatial or a parreket which is better for a first bird. by the way my son is 12 so i'm pretty sure he will take good care of it if not i guess i will have another animal for myself

thanks

Hi There i have budgies and cockatiels and both make great pets.
Since the bird is for your son i would have to advice going to a good bird breeder and get a young bird as if bought when young your son will be able to teach it and have it hand tame.

Cockatiels love lots of attention but can be abit grumpy but both types of birds are great.

if you would like anymore help please feel free to email me ..

HI/Male or female is ok males tend to be more vocal and more willing to learn.
Females can become very protective of there owner.

But either sex is fine
