Hi everyone...I am out of college now, and when i was in middle school, my parents got an african grey. Well, he loved me at first, and was so sweet, but as time went on, he bonded to my dad, and my dad was the only one that could hold him..He would bite me, and being young, i didn't want to deal with the biting, so i just left the handling to my dad.Well, even now when i go to visit my parents, I can't even try to pet him or touch him or he will bite the heck out of me. My dad hasn't handled him in quite a while, come to find out, he has been working 12 hour shifts, and i feel really sorry for the bird, and feel like he's not getting enough attention,or really, any attention, so I was going to take him and work with him. I have a sun conure, and a rescue goffin cockatoo. Well, I guess my question is...Is there any way that I will be able to handle him again? I did a lot when he was young, and I know that it was because he was so young, and was just the sweetest bird, like most baby birds...but when he started biting, i was in 8th grade, and just let hi stay my dad's bird basically. He hasn't been handled in who knows how long...and I think he has issues with cage territorality as well. I really want to make him a happy bird again and give him love and attention, but will my efforts be able to make a differnce? is ther hope that he will come around? i know that I will be bit, and that it will be a slow process, but I don't want all my efforts to lead to a dead end...I feel like maybe he thinks i abandoned him when i left for college, even though he didn't like me when i lived at home. does anybody know anything that i could do to make him to where he will let me and other people be able to handle him? Thanks
