A friend of mine has a yearling that won't gain weight. She has been on high quality feed and hay all winter. All she gets is a hay belly. She has been wormed for everything. She has had full access to good quality round bales. She is fed good quality feed regularly yet you can still see her back bone! I have tried everything I can think of, anyone ever had a problem like this?

What breed is the filly? Has she been cleaning up her food?

Determine the breed as to what the average weight should be. How tall is she? exc....
She's probably going through a growth spurt, hindering her weight gain.

What type of feed are you feeding? Strategy or Omelene work the best. You can add a little Wheat Germ oil and some Weight builder to help, but maintain a healthy wieght and do not allow her to get over weight.

Exersize will also help. Regularly allowing her turn out to plenty of grass, as well as witht he other horses will ehlp. Round pen for about 30 minutes aday working on trot and canters....

Have her teeth checked as well, Even though she's young, her wolf teeth could be giving her problems. or inproper growth of the molars. This can all be fixed with an equine dentist or qualified vet.

She is a breeding stock paint. She always eats all of her feed. She has a huge round bale. We live in West Texas so there is not much grass especially where there are horses! But they always have good quality hay. She has been on good 14% sweet feed and pellets. She has a big belly but she still looks bony. She lives in a pasture and has plenty of room to play. She just won't grow. She is 2 years old and very small for her age.

Oh yeah, I have tried adding to corn oil but haven't noticed much of a difference. She was also on Equine Junior and she still looked not very good.
