hello, i am writing a novel about a girl and her horse. the horse goes blind (completely) in one eye. They do dressage in this novel. I don't do dressage in real life, so i was wondering if a semi-blind horse can compete in dressage? [This message has been edited by HorsieGal234 (edited 11-07-2003).] IP: Logged |

Yes. As long as the horse/rider bond is stong, a blind or semi-blind horse can compete in anything. Dressage, endurance, jumping, trail riding... IP: Logged |

YES!! I'm a trainer and I've seen many blind horses do just about anything!!! From running barrels to roping calves to just plain pasture pets. Though its against the rules in jumping competitions to enter a blind horse. Safety reasons of course! Once a horse learns to trust his/her rider they will put their whole lives on the line to trust their rider to lead them safely. As far as pasture pets go, I've seen horses go blind and a pasture buddy become their seeing eye horse! Horses have a sense like no other beeing, once loved and respected, they will give all thier love and respect back. Remember, you have to have patience, and show them guidence through Give and Release! IP: Logged |
