A few months ago I purchased this gelding at an auction and afterwards realized he had a nasal discharge of green food material. When he drank water, it would come out of his nose. I had him seen by a local vet who concluded it was a chest cold. I began treating it. I later discoverd that it was more complicated and I decided I needed another vet's advice. I decided to contact a well known vet, Dr.Riddle in Cecil County, MD

Dr. Riddle did the endoscopic examination. The exam concluded that his problem is chronic. He could of had surgery for dorsal displacment of the soft palate. Dr. Riddle said if he performs surgery, it will be a 50%chance of recovery. he was not advocating surgery. Apparently the nerves or too much of the free border was removed at the first surgery to allow any further surgery to correct it.

I was given medication nasal spray. I sense this will only be a temporary fix to the problem.

I have no information on this 17.1 hand gelding. I sense he raced at Penn national. His tattoo is difficult to read. It could be B2_387. The fact remains, my TB could suffer from soft palate paralysis which causes food material or water to run ou t of his nose during eating or drinking and that the possibility of inhalation pneumonia due to inspiration may take place.

Any suggestions. Who has been down this road before and is willing to provide advice?
