Hey everyone, We have one mare in our group that no one can figure out what is going on. You can have the best gelding in the world and any that get around her for any length of time start acting like a stallion, yet can be kept with all other mares. She is always the * boss mare* in a herd. We can keep the geldings in pasture with any of the other mares 5, but once she get's around things change...... On rides she flirts with and teases the geldings. We have 4 geldings in this group, and she does it to all of them. They tried to breed her, with no luck. She tried to kill the stud. Have any of you, ever seen this before. All the horse people around here are confused with her. We have to keep her with a young filly, and away from any gelding for they really team up and start acting like a wild herd..... We have never seen anything like this. In my experience i would not keep this mare with a young filly as horses are like kids alot of times the older ones will teach the young ones thier bad habits!! ------------------ IP: Logged |

Sounds like you have a mare with a hormone imbalance. A bad hormone imbalance can make her dangerous to be around for other horses and people. I definately would have a vet come and check her. IP: Logged |

I don't know much about horses as I haven't ridden since I was a kid. Anyway I had a black pony gelding (named Satan of all names) that was 3 years old and I used to ride him over to the other street where there was other horses, but the opposite happened to me! he actually chucked a wobbly when we stopped at a paddock of mares and he refused to budge. The end result was I ended up on the ground. He was that bad I had to leave my friend with him and go and get mum to bring him back. Needless to say being 10 years old and his personal bucking pal for a few times after that, we sold him. I have to say that the whole experience turned me off horses as everytime I got on a horse I could feel it tense under me and I never really felt comfortable riding again. Anyway sorry I haven't got any advice but I hope everything works out alright. IP: Logged |
