Hi,

For you I would recomend a horse between the ages of 10-15. If you can, ask your trainer if you can spend a week with one of his/her's horses. If you know of someone else who has a horse, watch them with their horse so you can have even more experiance! The breed of horse doesn't really matter just as long as you find one you like. Unless you are gonna use this horse for a specific reason.Appalosas tend to have more energy then most. Quarters are great for western practices. Arabians make lovely show horses because of their slender heads and all around beauty. TBs tend to love to run and just will do anything.(however I wouldn't suggest doing any form of poles or barrels, they tend to have long legs)Warmbloods are usually used in english events.Well those are just some of the breeds. Let me know what you want to do with your future horse and I can help!

Best Wishes,
Casey

My horse is Jack:
12 yr old sorrel quarter horse stallion!

i agree with casey size is a matter you dont want to be over horsed or underhorsed for your first horse i suggest you get a size that will suit you and bring on your confidence plus bare in mind that its not about having a flashy horse pick a nice sturdy horse or pony that can with stand any climate make sure that you pick a calm relaxed horse the first time and is a good allrounder as i know plenty of people that have picked hypo horses cos there flashy i.e. tbs and arabs e.t.c there to much work and can scare you so ask your trainer what kind of horse will suit your riding ability but please if you do get a horse there is a lot of work involved make sure its the right thing you wanna do cos it won't be fair if you neglect the animal.

take care any questions just ask. but please belive there are good days and then there are the bad days but dont let it get you down

lots of love

I have a horse here that is perfect for a beginner rider. He's kind of big, but he's got the disposition and patience of a saint. He's an absolute sweetheart. I'm willing to make a deal on payments and would be happy to let you try him out if you would like.
Name: Just George
Color: Chestnut
Age:10 years
This gelding is papered, but has been lucky enough to never race. He has the personality fit for a puppy, which would make him great for a beginner or experienced rider. Unlike most horses of this breed, he lacks the excitable personality. He has been trained by an Olympic Silver Medalist in Dressage, Hunter, Jumper, and Equitation. He does anything and everything including flying changes, half passes, shoulder ins, etc. He was reserve champion at his first horse show in Ocala, Florida. He's still being shown by a girl in Florida, even now. Asking $28,000, but price is Negotiable to the right person. Will send pictures and registration information to serious inquiries only.

I suggest you continue to take lessons for at least one full year then get your instructor to help you in choosing a mount.
In general you probably need to be looking for an aged gelding-sound-safe and sensible.
If your looking for a pony-Connemaras or crosses might suit you. it kind of depends on what you plan to do with him. Definitely stay away from young stock!!!
I forget where you are-but check out Tonkawood Farm in Texas. http://www.tonkawood.com

I agree with everyone as well.

You never know what is the right horse for you. If you find one you like, always ask for a grace period for you to test them and get to know the horse on an individual basis.

When we bought ours, and people have bought ours from us, we always had a 30 trial period, We would let them take them home or we take them home, and test them out with our other horses, as well as how they interact with you as well as how you bond. You never know what suits you best.

I've been riding (alone) since I was 2, My mother thought an old plug was for me, but it turns out that the best horse for me was a 15yrold app mare, spunky and full of spirit! Now I have her daughter and we're the best of friends....

You really just have to search and eventually you'll find your match.
Good luck. and finish your lessons!! You'll need them for your first horse experiance!!
