My horse is not totally constipated but is only leaving about 3 piles a day, when usually there would be about 8 in 24 hours... Are there any household remedies, I have tried figs and prunes as someone rewcommended these to me, but I can't make him eat them. He is eating all his hay and chaff feed each day, so should be getting loads of fibre and he seems to eat the grass in his field as normal. The problem has only been the last two days and if it persists I will obviously call a vet, but more immediately I am hoping for a suggestion to cure it simply... help!

All better now. Frequent steady excercise and a few warm bran mashes did it.

just an idea for you what we do on a constant basis,is good to keep things flowing and good for the coat...
we add abt 1 cup bran to grain, and 1/2-1 cup of mineral oil or corn oil to their bran and grain once a day..if the horse is on the fat side i would use mineral oil as doesnt cause them to gain wieght, but if they need a bit of wieght corn oil will help out too!! this is really great for older horses with bad teeth too and you can always add more bran.

Bran will help and some Kayro Syrop. Not only do they think its a treat, but it helps the digestive system.

If he/she gets totally clogged, you can use milk of magnesia and Pepto Bismo to help. The vet can also give you some good stuff as well.
