Not to far from were I live their is a man who has about 20 horses on almost two acers. They are all getting feed well but don't live in the best of conditions. When I asked him what he was doing with all of them he said he is just seeing how many horses he will have before he dies. He breeds almost all his mares every year. I was fine with all of this till the other day I was riding by and notice and stallion in a make shift pen in the back. There is half of a moblie home in his pen and tires. Please in the barn there are two horses in each stall. My only thing is I don't want to see them take the horses away and them not have good home. Please were we live you are not allowed to have studs. So he will get in trouble for that. I had studs here I don't know why they make such a big deal out of it. Ant suggestions on what I should do if anything. Plus they don't get trimed so their hooves are grown out and craked. So I not worry about it and live it alone or do something.

I can understand that this must be very hard on you, and I am sympathetic to the situation. I would certainly have a very hard time looking at 20 animals on only 2 acres; the rule on that is one horse per acre. Not to mention that there is a stud close by that is not being properly penned. An acquaintance of mine, just had to put her TB race horse stud down because it got loose with another stud, and there was a massive blood bath. So I take owning a stud very seriously, and that is a big issue. But if you do report this then you must be prepared for the consequences, are you ready for that? Have you closely examined these animals, are you 100% positive of their well being, or lack of ferrier work? I have seen some sad things in the horse world, and horses can loose weight very quickly, so they may be being fed well now, but what about the future? If you feel that they are being neglected, either by this man's ignorance or just plain stupidty, you must do what feels right in your gut, and only you will know the answer to that.

HI, I agree with Bronson and I would like to add that I don't like to see any animal suffer most cerntainly not for the sake of a man who is just wanting to serve some self interest, like how many hores he can own. I believe in the horses best interest they would be better off rescued. The laws differ in different states, I lived in Texas for 20 years and the laws there to my understanding is as long as there is some form of feed on the premises and water avalible, they take the stand that the owner is making an effort to care for the animals. Now they don't take in consideration how often they are feed or the condition the horse is in. They don't even consider that the feed could have been brought in and the horses are not being feed daily. Thier weight and vacinations are not an issue. Is that not sad and a safe possition to take. I don't agree with the laws when it comes to the negelect of animals. You may not have a case in your state but if the agency came out to check on these horses and the owner new that they were watching him he may be a better owner. And if thier are rules and restrictions to stallions and or the number of horses on a acre then he may be forced to reduce his heard, that would be a possitive. If they do remove the horses they will be cared for properly and sold to caring owners that have to meet a criteria. I don't think I could sleep well knowing these horses are living such a misserable life with out proper exercise or care.
