This post was in reply to a horse that was in a fire and since has lost weight:
If he has been wormed on schedule every 6-8 weeks with a good one like Ivermectin, teeth floated yearly, good quality hay and feed, then he should maintain. Too bad you can't keep him in an adjoining pasture/corral so he can kiss up to other horses without the fear of harm. I question whether his lungs or some other organ system somehow got damaged. Has the vet pulled bloodwork to test for any disease? You might want to give a call to your state's Veterinary college, where they might want to see him. I know big bucks can sometimes hamper our efforts in seeking the help, perhaps a humane society or equestrian group can offer advise as well. I pray you get a diagnosis, it is obvious you love him dearly. God bless, and do share with us an update, won't you?
