Age makes a difference in that too-heavy a horse is not a good thing for the heart, legs, and general condition. As for weight, whatever it takes to fill him out but not look like he is bloated or stomach beyond the hips/shoulders if you will. 15H carries a good 1000-1250 depending on body type, heavy boned or smaller boned. Good luck now. IP: Logged |

If you are concerned about how much to feed your horse here are some tips: A healthy, mature, parisite free horse/pony can maintain body weight on two pounds of good hay per 100 pounds of live weight. Also, for a average pleasure pony, 7 or 8 pounds of a complete ration daily, split in to two feedings, plus good clean course grass hay (not alfalfa) will be a good simple way to feed. Also, make sure your pony has a salt block this is one of the most important things infeeding. IP: Logged |

If your pony is 13hh, depending on type or bone structure, it is probably around 600 to 675 lbs. For moderate to strenuous riding such as barrel racing, riding up and down large hills, cantering for long periods of time, ect. the rider should not weigh more than one fourth of the horses weight. For light or casual riding such as western pleasure or a laid-back trail ride, the rider should not weigh greater than about 15 pounds more than the 1/4th weight of the pony. Age of the pony doesn't really matter unless he/she is under 4 yrs. or very old. But use your own judgement. If your pony is very fine boned, the weight limit is probably less than that. IP: Logged |

A 13hh horse should only carry a 150lbs maximum. If the horse is over the age of 3 of course. How much does the horse weigh, this could change that dramatically. If its a heavy wieght horse, but not fat, just muscular and in shape, I would only recommend 150lbs. If its a lighter weight pony, I would go with less. IP: Logged |
