HI EVERYBODY,
I JUST SET UP MY NEW 45 GAL TANK AND I WENT TO THE FISH STORE TO FIND OUT WHAT I AM GOING TO PUT IN IT. I REALLY LIKE FIREMOUTHS AND COLOMBIAN(SHADOW FIN) SHARKS. THE PERSON I TALKED TO SAID THEY WOULD GET ALONG FINE IN MY TANK. I WAS TOLD I COULD GET THREE OF BOTH AND THAT THEY WOULD HAVE PLENTY OF ROOM AND THEY WOULD BE GREAT. I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT (A) THIS IS AN OKAY COMBINATION AND (B) THERE WILL BE ENOUGH ROOM FOR THEM IN MY TANK. THANKS FOR ANY INFO YOU CAN SHARE!!!

im not sure on a colombian sharks, but i believe all of the "sharks" get up 2 at least 1 foot in length, so it would not be good in ur tank in the long run. i appreciate you coming here first and asking b4 u buy the fish and end up having them slowly suffer. due to that, u have my respect.

Nope, not true at all.

First, columbian sharks get about 14" and are brackish fish. Although they can stand freshwater when they're younger, as they mature they need more & more salt (I've even heard of them being kept in saltwater tanks).

Also, firemouths get about 6" and are somewhat aggressive so they need 30 gallons per fish. I would suggest getting one firemouth and a hardy bottom feeder like a pleco.

Firemouths can b quite aggressive and so the idea of jus one with a plec is a gud idea. However, u cud try breedin dem with a bigger tank, i hav tried in the past n it has bin a great exp.

despite common beief, columbian sharks aren't bracish. they are freshwater babies and after they are about 6inches they need to be acclimated to marine tanks. bracish won't cut it. it'll add some time to the shark's life but not much...weeks maybe. plus 3 columbian sharks in a 45 isn't enough room. firemouths will pick on them.the sharks are VERY peaceful. they will get their *** kicked by a guppy. but columbians are my favorite fish. i have had several but they kept dying until i found out they need to be in salt water. they are like a trout in the wild. they are born in freshwater and travle out to the ocean and then back to freshwater to spawn.
